aerodynamic rule for open class
« on: July 10, 2010, 03:31:08 PM »
This will be my first year of trying to set a new AMA record for the 100 cc modified gas class. I have a few question I hope can be answered by the people who read this forum. First off is the new rule 5.J. Riders seat Shall not be higher than 4 inches above the lowest section of the seat base nor extend below the seat base by more then one inch. My question is, if I have the required number /class identification plate Reference 2.I. (minimum 7 by 8 inches, total surface area 56 sq. inches per side) molded into the seat will this be acceptable? and is this consider aerodynamic streamlining?

Second question is about chain/ belt guard ref. 5.C., minimum length of chain guard is to my understanding 1.5 times the total span of the belt/chain, assuming i have a 26 inch span  1.5 times the span gives me a length of 39 inches is this correct?

Third question is in reference to 2.D. fuel shutoff and engine kill switch. it states that aeroquip or equipment fire sleeve must cover all fuel lines Does this mean that the line from the spigot to the carb inlet must have fire sleeve around it even if this is a gas class rather than a fuel class bike?

Thanks in advance for taking the time to read this and all response will be appreciated

#2- width, not length.

#3- cover all gas or fuel lines.

Your #1 question is hard to answer.  Perhaps you can take a digital photo of the seat on the bike and e-mail it to the BUB tech folks?  They can give a definitive reply.

Welcome Moto

I have trouble understanding it, but rule 5.C. actually says:
"..Chain/Belt Guard.
Minimum length of a belt/chain guard is 1½ times the total span
and a minimum of 1/4 inch wider than the belt. A primary cover is mandatory.
Belt/chain cover shall extend from center of the
primary output shaft to the outer most edge of the rear sprocket
.."

as long as the chain guard goes beyond the farthest point of the chain at both ends of the sprockets you should be fine.
