lakester tread width
« on: July 01, 2010, 08:40:29 PM »
I have the 2009 SCTA rule book.

I am a bit confused, so can someone help me.

I am collecting parts to build an Unblown Gas Lakester.

I have a vintage engine...a '59 302 GMC

So, I'm reading along and it says, and I paraphrase, "vintage vehicles must have a 50 inch wide rear end and a 44 inch wide front tread width..."

I have purchased a narrowed 9 inch Ford rear end.

My mind is frazzled.

Does a XO Lakester have to have a 50 inch wide rear end because it has a vintage engine?

The two paagraphs appear next to each othe in the rulebook...so it's confusing.

Does a vintage engine powered lakester have to have a 50 inch wide rear tread.

Please tell me "no."

The inside plan of the tires must be wider than the widest part of the body.

You are not building a "vintage category" vehicle" you are building a "special construction category" vehicle, running a vintage class engine. The vintage catagory car requirements don't apply. Hope this helps.

Unless it's crazy, ambitious and delusional, it's not worth our time!

Thanks. I had a moment there when all my plans were headed out the window.
