Glen -- and everyone -- I just walked over to the other side of the motel's yard and did hear some thunder rumbling in the far distance -- but it's only mostly cloudy right here and not raining at all.  A storm tonight to cool and clean the air would be nice.  It was in the HIGH nineties today -- with humidity (that's water in the air, you folks out west) above 65- 80 %.

So -- really low turnout so far.  About twenty five or thirty bikes, and maybe two dozen cars.  I guess we shouldn't have said so much on line about the heat -- lots of folks stayed away.

So -- I'll post this and then go back and modify it with a bunch of photos.  I want to letcha know that things are moving along, though.  I'll be back in a few minutes.

Here are photos, including a cool mid-50s BMW single cylinder 250, and Walt (116cihemi) little Escort.  And all the other usual suspects.  I've got some more photos in the machine -- you'll get those later.  Nancy wants to go eat -- I'll take her out in a few minutes, but the site got first dibs on my attention.

Here's Dan Stokes and his Camaro

Dan's engine bay:

A trio of shots of Walt's car and Josh Owen:

1400cc of Suzuki motor in this car:

Joe Ledford's roaster:

Here's a turbo 'Busa, new to the track.  We asked him what the record was in his class (we usually ask new folks that question, just to see if they've paid any attention), and he gave us a look like "I can't believe the record I saw online is right.  Is it REALLY 272?

Here's a pair of shots of that tasty Bimmer:

Okay -- that's all for now.  Later - -

Thought I'd forgot all about you folks, hey?  Nah, justmaking a run and sweating.  So here's your first update of the weekend.

There are lots of little motorcycles hdere.  A turbo 175 Honda, a couple of 100's, a couple of 250, and so on.  More than usual, for sure.  They're running 62, 76, and speeds like that.  And a good assortment of bigger-motored bikes, too -- the turbo 'Busas are represented by a few bikes we haven't seen before -- and some of the usual suspectst.  Dean Sabatanelli just ran 214 naked on the Scott Guthrie #1107, and Todd, on the 1111 sidecar bike has made a couple of runs in the lower 170s.  I managed a 177 on the street ZX14 -- and was happy about it in the high temp/higher humidity air.  Josh Owen is justleaving the pit on the nitrous 1302 bike -- and will be through the lights in less than 20 minutes or so.

The lines are pretty short -- thanks to the weather, no doubt.  As of a half hour ago there is no further need for pre-stage lines -- that's how well things are moving.

So - to cars -- let's see -- Joe Ledford in the #55 roadster did 195, a circle track car a 186, a stock Chevy pickup 116++.  Unh, let's wait a minute -- car 7770 is leaving the line -- I'll tell you more in a second or two.  It's an Datsun 240, I think (kinda hard to see) and he ran 145.  Photos:

Unh, I don't know much about this one -- except that I think he's going to run it!

Our pit - - the TJRD pit, that is. . .

And look at this great ol' Ford:

And the 9232 Camaro just ran -- sounded dang good -- but no speed has been announced.  Ah, there -- 190.887.

Todd Dross just put down a 173 on the sidecar bike.

Now -- I've got a photo of Flipper that I'll put on here, just to let you know what we've gotta deal with at Maxton.  I'll give you a hint -- she's wearing a custom-made shirt.  I'll post that in a minute or two.

Okay.  Susan Miller, a/k/a Flipper for her habit of single-digit waves, had a buddy make this shirt for her.  She's lurking in shutdown and marking the sped-board -- fills it out with the racer's speed so he can see it when returning to the pits.  This is what they get to see:

Again:

And here is a photo of Nancy and me and our rides and so on. . .

The 531 (bright yellow) roadster just put in a 195.200 run -- must be the roadster chosen speed for the day.

Bill, you can call, you can beg on line, but you'll have to settle for the photo of her and me directly after the shots of Flipper.

It's about 84F/75% right now.  I'll go get some results and post them.

David, It looks like a Porsche 904.  If it is and real it is a very rare race car.

Yes, Doug it does.  Just wondering what it "really" is . . . .  A real 904 would be worth more than my house, all my junk and everything I could dream about earning.

I guess we'll find out eventually . . . . .in the meantime, I need to get to Maxton . . . .

Report on the psuedo-904:  It's a car built by some fellow that brought it here to see if he could run it -- so he said, but also probably so he could show it off to the folks assembled.  It did have a flat-6 Porsche motor and some Porsche brakes -- and a front end, I'm told, that he designed and built himself.  I am told he builds them for sale.

Probably, therefore, not worth as much as your house after all.

Not a whole heck of a lot going on here.  Dean's running the turbo 'Busa around 215, Josh just ran 209 on the nitrous bike, the sidecar turbo 'Busa made a fine pass at 194, and so on for the bikes.  The two roadsters are still stuck in the upper 190s, the "cup" cars are in the 160-180 range, the sprint car (with a SBC) ran 161, the Dodge Daytona just made a pass with a rookie driver -- went 125.01 or something -- right on the money for his first run,.Walt's 9301 Escort turned another 100 -- 100.3, I think it was.  Quite a few vehicles are already in the trailer and gone home.

Randy's turbo 750 pushrod bike (you've seen the bild here) is having turbo hassles -- runs 80 and that's it.

Oh -- the 9232 Firecracker Camaro went 194 and is over in the pit right now (across from Nancy and me) with hood open and nobody near it.

More later -- I'm going to take advantage of the light turnout/short lines in staging and make another run.

  Way to go Dean!  215 naked on a 220 bracket faired bike.
Dean seems to have some special skills.  The turbo Busa he is on has been running in the 220-222 range with fairings, by some good riders.  Dean got on her and put down a 232 faired speed in April and now is running it naked at almost the bikes normal faired speed.
Thats enough for the busa stuff dean... time to go back to the zx10  :-D

He's been on the 10R this weekend, too, Bill.  He's bouncing from one to the other and back.  He makes a run, takes a break to cool down, makes a run, repeat, repeat.

Right now we're shut down -- timing lights, I think, are farkling.  No announcement on the radio -- but saw Joe Timney chasing back and forth and chasing wires.  Maybe it's the printer?  Nah, I betcha the lights.

Oh, yes -- the weather changed.  It's quite a bit cooler and more cloudy, and the wind has picked up and gone to a headwind.  I checked the weather radar and see a few red-yellow-green cells not far away - but it doesn't look like it's gonna rain here just now.  Sunny and upper nineties for tomorrow -- so we'll try to get in some runs early tomorrow morning.  Nancy's not riding this afternoon -- too hot and spacey-making.  Tomorrow morning everything will be better, right. . .?
