To Tom G.,
It appears that it is the rear that I sold Bob, a Winters Extremeliner 3:08 R&P that was REM'ed. It has a 35 spline steel spool.

Joe,

Thanks, I was wondering if it was a Winters Extremeliner.

I love the USA. How much longer will we be a free nation?

Asking questions is one's only way of getting answers.

The rational person lets verified facts form or modify his opinion.  The ideologue ignores verified facts which don't fit his preconceived opinions.

Yeah, that's it -- I'd forgot all about the lakester.  I haven't heard from Ron Gibby recently,  nor Robin Dripps -- and those are the two folks I know best on that build.  Maybe Ron is lurking, will see this note, and will get on here and tell us the latest.  Somewhere at the house I think I've still got his business card - maybe I'll shoot a howdy to him to get him back with information.  Thanks for asking, Sparky.

Sparky and SSS.

I've been helping Bob D. getting this effort finished for a test in Loring. July 16-17, 2011. If we don't break anything that can't be fixed, we will head out to the Salt for SW.

The car came back from paint July 1st and we all have been thrashing on final ass'y.
No camera's or cell phones at Bob's supper secret location :-D, because we are all old farts and aren't into the 21st century yet.

Hopefully there will be pictures once we unload in ME.

Can we go as fast as it looks?

We are geared for 275 mph at Loring.
I think we can do that.

This has been an unauthorized message, I hope I don't get in trouble with the boss.

BTW, I went with Bob to Maxton with Robin's E/STR in June and we did very good. Everyone was happy with the test runs.

Somebody should have pictures. I brought a camera and the thing didn't work. but the car did.

1st run 240. this was supposed to be a shakedown under 220 run, make sure it shifts, steers, brakes chutes. ect. No issues with the car. Pack the chutes get back in line.

2nd run. no time. timing issues after a track sweep/cleanup. car pulled real strong everything OK. chutes out way early. RPM indicates about 250 when chutes came out.

Checked over the car again. Everything looks good. Drives good. Good test. Drink beer. Happy crew. Put it in the trailer.

We felt running on Sunday would not gain us any knowledge or information.

Frank

Edit, I found a picture, trying to post. Thnaks, Marcia from the HAMB.

Post race update.

We ran the car 8 times and every one of them had a 300+ on the timeslips. The best, and last, being a 313.6 out the back. We were running against a 314 record, so we were always a few short on the qualifying. We were out of ideas that would be simple changes and tires, too.

No big problems or issues with the car.

For a bunch of guys who have been chasing the magic number of 300 for a few years, this years runs were a big accomplishment. The time slips looked like we had a bracket car.

Is the 608 the first unblown gas lakester to top 300 on carburetors? I think so.   It means nothing, really, but it's a great drinking game in the pits.
