Windshield Info Please
« on: June 13, 2010, 12:25:42 PM »
I think I know that if running a glass windshield I must apply a safety film ?

But what If I am running 3/16" or 1/4"  Lexan ? (I assume with Lexan no safety film is needed or required?)

Now when using Lexan,, I will be using the better scratch resistant kind, but it only comes in clear... is it permissible to add a darker window tint to the Lexan to help reduce the glare ?

Thanks

Charles

Why not use a selection of helmet visors instead of tinting your windshield? That way when you're squeezing in the last run of the day you'll still have clear vision.

PJ,,, I had though of that too,,,, Part of my twisted thought process was that tinting all the windows and windshield may help reduce the inside temps a few degrees.  also...Still working on the driver cooling systems too.

The rule says "non-laminated" (tempered, explodes into a zillion pieces). Windshields are laminated safety glass. I would  use the stock windshield (if it is laminated).

The stock windshield I have is 57 years old and looks like the edges are blistering and delaminating.  Rather than take the chance, I am leaning towards Lexan.

It's OK to tint your windshield, no matter the material.

Charles, a new glass one is under $300. thru most glass shops.  A new rubber is under a hundred.  Call me if you have any problems....   Bob (360) 696-1428.
p.s.  The only glass you need to cover is the headlights on a 53...........

Charles, If your looking for lexan for the Stude checkout, www.vfnfiberglass.com ...... they make Stude windshield/rear/side windows, including scratch proof lexan (?), different thicknesses and options. Pricing seems reasonable......
