This is going to sound like a SA answer---BUT---

by even asking the questions you are---tells me you need to either buy other tubing OR get a professional cage builder to install or at the very least weld if for you!!!!!!

We tig weld alluminum every day here at our owned machine shop.  We have always welded 4130 custom peices with 4130 filler rod.  We are mearly trying to meet the scta tech specifications.  That Is why we are asking questions.

Remember mild steel and CM weigh the same. If the tubing has to be .120 wall there is no weigh advantage to CM.

   Maybe you ought to look up S.A.E. specs for welding 4130 and just because you've always been doing it does't mean you've been doing it right.

  Our 222 camaro has a chrome moly complete Alston chassis it came tacked together to Prochassis,even though they do a lot of welding they hired a certified aircraft welder to finish the welds.
