i joind the forums today and this is only my second post.
i have never been to a land speed even yet but i hope to see one later this year.
is there a rule book i can download on line that i can use as a guide in setting up my new streemliner.
i will be running a streemliner with 700-1000HP, im not sure how fast it will run, if it were a drag car it would be no problem, im new to this land speed stuff, i know i will be extremely traction limited, i have been looking everywhere for the tires i will need to run, any ideas on where to get them and what brand or size to use. also any idea about what kind of speeds i will be running.
i live in east tenn about 5 hours from the maxton NC area.
i have been drag racing for 11 years, i have won 62 races and 2 track championships in the southeast.
my current car is a front engine altered running low 5s and about 150mph in the 1/8.
i have a shop and have built several cars ground up and dozens of racing engines.
i have mills, lathes, plasma cutters, welders, torchs engine test stands the whole 9 yards.
i am looking for something different and want to get into land speed racing.
i specialize in small block ford windsors & clevelands but have built them all from chryslers to roundy round 4 cylinders.
i am currently finalizing plans to build a streemliner body and chassis with 700-1000 HP and hope to run at maxton mainly with a few trips to other events.
i was getting tired and wanted to get away for a while.
i have been in southern iraq 90 miles from the kuwait border for the last 4 years and am looking forward to going home and starting the shop up again later this year.

To specifically answer your question about rulebooks online -- no, there is not a way to get the rulebook online.  Rulebook sales are a good source of income for the racing organisations, so they sell them only by mail or at the race track.  Sorry -- but since you'll be joining at least one of the groups -- you'll get yours that way and have it in hand when you've got questions.  Buy a couple of books -- one for the living room, one for the shop, maybe one for the bathroom, too.

Are you planning on running on the salt as well as Maxton? The reason I ask is IMO I think a 1000 HP streamliner would be a very limiting vehicle at Maxton. Don't get me wrong, to each their own,and if that is your plan I wish you all the luck in the world, but if I were building a car exclusively for the mile it would be something other than a high HP liner. Welcome to LSR and good luck to you.

Records or parts, I didn't come all this way not to break something.

as maxton is the closest LSR track to me, it will be the track i will run at most of the time.
the only thing i am having problems finding are the high speed tires, i have spent a lot of time researching this and cant seem to find any.
as i have not started on the frame or body yet, if not a streemliner, what would you build.
i have lookd at the lakester type cars and they were my second choice.
later i hope to make a trip out west to the salt, i can re gear the car for that.
i have lookd at the ron vesco car and the speed demon liner and like them also.
what ever i build will be rear engined, with the tube frame wrapping around close to the engine, with the slickest body i can mold to it.
my present dragster has 16' wide slicks on back with front runners.
are drag slicks allowed to be ran, i thought i read on one of the forums they were not allowd.

Drag Radials are approved to use at Maxton (some versions up to 200mph, some to 225mph, not sure if you can exceed 225mph with them however,).

A lakester would be a good choice for double duty (east and west) as would rear engine modified roadster.

A really nice streamliner was for sale back in November that might be of interest.  Not all that far from you in North Carolina.  I considered buying it but I am too big to fit in the cockpit.  Don't know if it is still for sale but you can get info form the for-sale forum here . . .http://www.landracing.com/forum/index.php/topic,7053.0.html

As far as LSR tires go, here's a link to a section of the Roger Kraus Racing Tires catalog.  At the top of page 3 you will find the Goodyear LSR tires.  This is just one source I've found, I'm sure there are others (other brands as well, I saw several cars with Dunlap tire at El Mirage a couple of weeks ago).
