Convertible or Not a Convertible
« on: May 30, 2010, 12:54:29 PM »
Would a Mazda Miata or a Honda S2000 with the removable OEM hardtop option still be considered a convertible?

I would like to be able to run in both Gas Coupe & Blown Gas coupe.

Thanks for your help,

JP

Yes.  OEM removable hardtops are still convertibles.

Start at the production rules - 2 seat is your key definer between GT/Sports and Coupes.  Depending on the extent of your modifications, it looks like you might be headed toward Modified Sport territory.  If you meet the rules for GT, that's where you run, the next step up is Modified.

Got a rule book?

Here's a discussion that might be germane to where you're headed.

A convertible  can run in Gas Coup and Blown Gas Coup with the top up or the hard top on I would think. You must have either a engine swap, Quick change rear end or In Blown a other that stock blower. Also the base car must be suitable for four passengers. Is a Miata or S2000 a four seater? Sure look like sports cars to me. Which would put them in GT or MS classes I would think

Neither of those two choices will qualify for the Gas Coupe classes. You are in the GT or Mod Sports classes depending on modifications.
