Not unless the tire said racing on it or has documentation stating it is a race only tire..

I would use that tire and have very fast on pavement, the power 1 is a great LSR pavement tire!!

People have been faster than me with them for sure..

Thanks John, that's what I was wondering....if the word "race" on the michelin power...would make it legal?

Bob.

I was at Nate Jones last thursday dropping off the streamliner tires and saw at least 3  6'tall stacks of BT03's give him a call at 562-597-3369.... he is an advertiser and he supports our sport so lets toss him a bone

How about Dunlop 208 GP A?  I bought a set of road race take off's based on what it said on Dunlop's website.  Now that I have them, I see it doesn't say "race" on the sidewall.  Here's a like to the site.

John, aren't DOT race tires OK for SCTA?  As long as they are race tires, the fact that they are street legal shouldn't disallow them correct?

I just got word from Van Butler that the Dunlop 211GP tires I have are good to go, and they are DOT legal race tires. I said as much in the email, and wanted to clarify. They do not say "racing" anywhere on the sidewall, but the 'GP' in the Dunlop tire designation signifies a race tire.

I'm a little confused still as I have seen a set of tires that Nate Jones has shaved and sold.

They are the BT003RS tires as the word "race" and "street" is actually on the tires.

I could be wrong but my BT002 pro tire does not say street anywhere on the tire.

My BT002RS tires I use for the pavement tracks

and I was told they have a harder compound then even the Type 2's BT002's

I was just looking online at the Bridgestone 003 I'm a bit confused as to why this is considered a race tire when it's a street tire.

"Target Performance

• Street Sport Tire with Ultimate Grip Performance is derived from MotoGP technology.

• Designed for Sporty Riding enjoyment with confident grip on streets and dry-condition circuits.

• Specially street-turned tire developed from our latest racing tire BT-003 which has achieved many victories in production-class races (600cc-1000cc).

• BT-003RS is the successor to BT-002RS and BT-090 and covers various engine sizes and models (from middle sport class to super sport class).

• The 3LC (3 Layer Compound) and 5LC (5 Layer Compound) provide regular wear and the optimized pattern design provides longer wear life than ex-models: BT-002RS/BT-090."

here is a link to a Canadian distributor

http://www.rippracing.com/

you can see there are diffrent links and diffrent profiles for the BT003RS and the BT003Race   tires.

My questons is simple are they both legal?

I posted before and I thought the answere was no only the race only tires were legal

But then I have seen this set from Nate that are the "RS" tires

Of course i am comparing against the markings on my year old's BT002's where the RS's have street on them and the Pro's do not..

This is why I am confused  :?

Wise words, Bill.  I heard this-n-that last night - suggest we all put buying on hold.  I've got new-rule tires in the trailer already -- but won't mount them yet!
