89 Octane

So if I am running in a gas class, and I want to use 89 octane gas, what are my options? As far as I can tell, I cannot buy and less than 100 octane from the vendor at the track. I was meaning to check in April, but it slipped my mind.

You can always buy it and bring it with you.  But, check your rules, you might be required to run the fuel sold by the vendor at the track if you want credit for any record you might set.  I can't remember the exact rule, but there is something about this in the SCTA rule book.

'10 ECTA rule book, page 14, 2.B FUELS:

In fuel classes, any approved liquid fuel may be used.  Examples of approved fuels are: nitrous oxide, nitromethane, alcohol, and hydrogen.

In gasoline classes, you must run fuel supplied by our fuel vendor and have your tank sealed.  You may bring gasoline in a factory sealed container to be dispensed by our fuel vendor at a cost of $20 per event.  Water injection is allowed, but water tanks must be inspected and sealed by an ECTA offical.  Engines using LPG or diesel fuel may compete in gasoline classes.

For all records attempts, the competitor must submit to a fuel tank check in impound after the record run.

I should have phrased my question differently. Are their any other options? My engine runs kind of crappy on 100 which is why I don't want to use it. I would have to run a crapload of timing, really hot plugs, and deal with PITA cold starts to get it close to right. (I got to play with some at the dragstrip on Tuesday).  I don't even know where I would find a normal gas sold in sealed containers, so I am just trying to find out if there are any other options. I doubt I will go fast enough to worry about breaking the class record, but I would just as soon keep my options open.

if you dont think your car will run the number then why are ya worried about certified gas?.... take whatever gas you want to use and just don't certify a record if ya set one....

Or, just enter a fuel class.

I sugest you call a company like VP fuels and see if you can buy a lower octane gas in a sealed container.

I have one shot at racing for at least the next two years. Call me crazy, but if I somehow manage to coax 115 out of my Escort, I would like to certify the run. I will just use event fuel and tune it at the track, I just don't like doing that. I will probably have to tweak things for the difference in temp and elevation anyways.

If you run in street class.I dont think you will be bounced for running pump gas.The regular gas class you have to run event gas.
When I first ran my s10 the motor made on a good day 275 hp I ran pump gas because at 9to1 and no power I would not set a record with a 50 mph tail wind.So no harm no foul.
