Philly Newbie looking to learn, talk
« on: May 12, 2010, 12:59:41 AM »
Hey guys. Just started getting into LS racing, and wondering if there's anyone around me who has experience, or anyone who has any advice, words of wisdom, etc, in general.

Racer X, I haven't gone through any severe financial purge yet, but I'm sure its coming. It looks like the best hobbies are the most expensive ones, and I have two bikes as it is before I even had plans to hop one up for Speed Week. What are you running?

JoeT,  I might run my Rocket III once its supercharged, but I have to figure out what class. I also have to get much more experience driving fast. Any (legal) suggestions? I was thinking of partial streamlining as well, but I don't know who does the stuff locally, so I was going to take a welding class and try to mod something myself. How far down is Townsend? Are you running at Maxton? What are you running?

How far down is Townsend? About 30 minutes over the state line. I'm in my shop 9 to 5 daily...302.378.3013

Are you running at Maxton? I'm the President & chief timer of the ECTA.

Well Alex, I should have looked here first like I usually do instead of "Introduce Yourself" Anyway, no matter where you live you're never too far away from home in Maxton.

First, get yourself an ECTA Rulebook, which will help you determine a class for your Rocket III.

Second, get your butt down to Maxton, NC and start off slow and easy and work your way up.
No need to supercharge you bike first.

Just sort out the stuff that will not make you faster. Then Yard sale the rest for a race trailer.
Definitely get a rule book and definitely get down to Maxton Next week. I am the little white Astro van with Dark Horse Racing on the side. Stop by and say hi.

Philly,

These guys are all right,,,, no need to get your Rocket Suercharged YET... come on down to Maxton, get your bike Tech'd for safety and run it as is to get seat time on the track and get your license passes in until the current motor set up is topped out,,, then add the Super Charger and GO FASTER...

We don't allow full speed passes of the trailer for new cars/biks etc.. you have to license up ..

Come on down and meet all the nice folks and learn and have fun.

good stuff Charles ... I recommend you get the rule book ... If you arent ready to run come on down to Maxton and watch tech /stage/ racing ... take the  rookie orientation class which is really cool because you get to almost walk the course ... If you can meet safety requirements enter and run ... you have to license up ... what is the top speed potential of your ride?

Well, I just got the SCTA rulebook today, but I'll have to get the ECTA one, too. I'm not sure if I can make it down to Maxton next week yet, but I'll know by next week. This last month was crazy helping out fam with a big move and other stuff, so I just might not be able to.

55chevr, top speed of my ride is 140, but I'm not sure if that's because of a limiter or practical limitations. I was talking to a guy from a performance company, and he said there's a lot of potential for the Rocket, but I haven't pushed it all the way yet.

Charles, I really do want to get down to Maxton to do this stuff, but I'll see if I can. Is it easy to get cheap hotels, rooms?

Racer, I'll come over and say hi if I can make it down.

These Hotels are all in Laurinburg, about 10 miles from the track.

Clinton Inn  (910) 276-6555   Lowest price and clean (most likely to find a room here)
Jameson Inn (910) 277-0080  Next lowest price ,, nice and clean
Holiday Inn (888)303-1753
Hampton Inn (910) 277-1516
Comfort Inn - OK too
Scotland Inn --  STAY AWAY -
Pine Acres - Nice,, hard to get a room there..

ECTA website has all these and other hotel phone numbers, these are the numbers and hotels I know.

I am out of the country this coming meet,,, if you make it,, have fun..

Hope to meet you in June,

Alex, The guy with the blown Rocket was Walt deSomerville and I'm going to look at back postings for his screen name/bike number/info. He didn't run with us many times I don't think, but he ran fast (for us cruiser folks).
