Steve,

May I suggest that you handle someone else's helmet as if it were your own?

Bob, I think that maybe perhaps -- SOME Snell 2010 helmets will not be available until October of this year, but others might be available sooner.  Maybe, for instance, the M2010 (bike) helmets are out there now (I haven't shopped) but the SA2010 won't be out 'til October.

OK - clear as mud?

The Snell cert's are good for 10 years, but I thought our rules also add the wording about 5 years from Mfg Date.

So a SA2005 is good till 2015, if you buy one now in 2010 weather a SA2005 or SA2010  you need a new one in 5 years anyway 2015 ?  Correct.

The reason I ask is I need a new helmet that has the air intake for a cool system .

Now the Snells are good for 10 years -- but that doesn't mean the rules will stay that way.

Faded, the "real" Snell sticker is on the inside - usually under the soft liner fabric.  You'll most likely have to dig and peer and look and use a flashlight and keep trying, you'll find it sooner or later if it's there.  The past ones have been rotogravures -- that is, shiny "paper" that looks darn near like foil, and has the printing on it.  You'll likely have a hard time reading it, too.

But that all contributes to the difficult in making copies and therefore "certifying" a non-legal helmet.  Dig into the liner and report back, if you please, when you find the sticker.  Tell us what it says, too, okay?
