A couple of USFRA 130 mph class pickup questions
« on: April 09, 2010, 08:02:10 PM »
I'm beginning the prep work on my 2007 GMC Canyon pickup to run in the 130 mph class. If things go well with my work schedule I plan to come out this year, else I'll have to wait until 2011.

I have the 2010 rule book but there are a couple of things that aren't clear as they pertain specifically to the 130 class:

Battery tie down - does a factory stock under hood battery box and its tie down comply with the rules?

Truck bed tonneau cover - can I use a typical aftermarket tonneau that clamps to and sits on top of the bed rails? (The rules for all the classes other than 130 class say a tonneau must fit at or below the bed rails, or something to that effect but I couldn't find anything about tonneaus and 130).

Thanks!

Bob

It has looked to me as though you will be fine with both of these items. Very stock cars seem to run in the 130 club and I don't think they have ant special battery tie downs. But not a loose battery either. As far as your bed cap, it's not a class rule deal. Do what you want. It's just for fun and your not trying to beat anybody.

The 130 Club rules are separate from the S.C.T.A. rules. The 130 Club is a World of Speed exclusive. Your battery tie down and bed cover sound OK, if you will resend your question to USFRA@saltflats.com an inspector can respond to you.

Thanks - I appreciate the input. I'm trying to do this on a budget and if I can purchase one street tonneau (to replace the fiberglass cap that I currently have) rather than a street tonneau and building an aluminum 'race tonneau' I'll save a bunch of dough.

I wasn't sure if the tonneau rule for the fast classes was safety related or for competitive reasons.

this is 130 club rules.  Good entry level place to start without spending your retirement.  Street legal cars and trucks can run.
