BBC Dimensions
« on: March 17, 2010, 12:22:31 AM »
I need the dimensions for a BBC from the back of the block where the bell housing bolts to the face of the dampner and the width at its widest point, edge of valve cover to edge of valve cover.  I don’t have an engine to measure and need to make sure that we don’t add any tubes to the roadster chassis where they would get in the way. Not exactly what you need but.....

From the water pump pulley to the rear of the block. 30.5"
Width 22"
Top of rocker covers (stock) to bottom of pan (stock) 23.5"

Keep in mind the width will change with cylinder head make and deck heights.

Good Luck with your project.  :-)

The Ratical has a std deck bbc and I figure that 24" width clears--not counting header flanges

Mike,

I have to boycott that site. They left out DeSoto Motors, and little Dodge hemi's also. LOL.

They also left out Ford's 351/400M, and 429/460. Nothing since the  FE.

Tony,
Per Chevy Power Catalog, 6th Edition, BBC Deminsions are 23.63" from rear face of case to front face of case, plus 2.15" from front of case to centerline of damper. 3.47" from front of case to centerline of first pulley on crankshaft damper. Crankshaft centerline to centerline of stock exhaust manifolds 11.48". Stock exhaust manifold centerline in this drawing was almost perfectly lined up with the valve cover and exhaust port outside edge. Hope this helps. Sterling
