Securing a window net(pic inside)
« on: March 16, 2010, 02:55:14 PM »
So I just got my one off window net in from Stroud. Bob and I decided on doing two buckles on the net. One on the front side and one on the top with a bar. On the lower half I actually have a V-shpaed opening. We both decided on using eyelets to secure the net to the roll cage.

Now there is my issue. We came up with two solutions. Use short self tapping screws or drill a hole for each eyelet all the way through and run bolts and nuts. Are either of these solutions ok for SCTA? I am not seeing anything in the rule book stating either is not ok. My gut and 99% of my brain tells me to use bolts and nuts, because if I do screws it will only be secured to on side of the bar. And will have a weak point with the screws possibly coming loose.

The only issue I see that may be pointed out is the drilling of 8 holes on two bars. What do you guys think?

You might think about welding on some threaded bungs at each attach point.

I know what is looks like, but can't seem to find anything online. I am not sure where to get something like that locally. A lot of other weld on stuff, but nothing that small and female.

Got a link?

I made a piece to go on the roll bar. Weld or clamp. Whatever that is sturdy. And then bolted to that rather than drill and tap my roll bar tube.

How about lacing it around the tube with some nice strong parachute cord or the like?

I like the female bung idea. It has to be something SCTA won't question mike. I probably wouldn't pass someone with string holding their net in.

If you can't find bungs you might consider welding non plated nuts to weld on.
