LOL!  But you won't get any sympathy from me.  I have to wear the same gear for my Taurus plus I am a crew of 1.  Can't tell you how many shifts I've missed wearing my Pillsbury dough boy suit with that long throw shifter. OR how fun it is to push a Taurus in the staging lanes by yourself in June while wearing the same.  That's why I race a motorcycle now....along with other reasons.  :)

As a side note:  Ever wonder why NASCAR drivers can run over 200 mph and wear those light weight jump suits?

They are NASCAR drivers...getting burned makes for good TV!!! But ask Earnhardt Junior about his road racing fire at Daytona last year. He got burned and didn't like it!!!

FYI, if you want a lightweight SFI 20 suit, I've got them for $1375. It's just money!!! LOL

Since 1976 SCTA went what was called a little "overkill" on fire suits. One of the best things the BOD ever did. All other racing have walls to bounce off of and close by fire teams.

As long as 15's-20's are kept in good condition they should be good forever and I hope the SCTA keeps with their way of checking them. Personally I would never hang one in a trailer or closet. They should be kept flat in a suit case.

With the advent of checking fire protection in the lines prior to vehicle inspection inspectors don't see them as much as in the past. I would hope that competitors have the cleaned or washed by the manufacturers specs. yearly and this is pointed out to them when they are seen.

Both my suits were bought at automotive swap meets. Both were new display models and bought at extremely fair prices. Best to keep your eye open at all times, do research and shop wisely..Good Luck

Oh, I absolutely agree on the suits.  I just remember the "culture" shock of wearing mine for the first few times and now find it funny.

Slightly off topic (but not far off)

Does wearing the nomex under wear really add to the level of protection ?

Would a 3A/15 suit combined with full head to toe nomex underwear , be the same as a 3A/20 rated suit with just plain under wear ?

When my son decided to buy his own suit (mine was a little large) in January of 2009, we went to DJ Safety. The newer materials in Joe's -20 suit made it much more comfortable to wear and less bulky than my 12 year old Diest -20. Although our class dosen't require a -20 Tony opted for it just for the peace of mind. Joe had one on the rack (no custom embroidery or stripes and in black only) and It was less than $1000.
