too cold to ride , so I bought a welder
« on: January 30, 2010, 02:16:29 PM »
this was a little bigger than I intended to get , but got a great deal on it. Now I need to clean up the shop a little to make room for this monster.

I have already started on a sheetmetal intake for the camaro :-)

yeah , I couldn't be happier.... welding aluminum sheetmetal is kinda tricky, but I am figuring it out. Cant wait to see if the camaro picks up a few more HP :-)

For welding sheet aluminum it's often easier to use mig wire as the filler rod rather than tig rod which is generally available only down to 1/16th. The other trick with aluminum is to build the heat in the metal slowly rather than just blasting away. You'll find your starts much nicer.

Nice one Roy . I am spending the weekend cleaning the garage. It is snowing outside and I don't have any tread on my tires.  :-P
Thank you to all the volunteers

We have a full inch of ice covered by 10 inches of snow,,, just been lazy... did a little tidy up in the shop... now about to leave.. have to go resuce a friend of mines A Model Sedan...My Trailer is still hooked up to my truck, so If I can get her up the driveway, we are going to get his car.. He took it Friday afternoon to the indoor Car and Drag Race show in Greensboro and he has to get it out...Can not drive it in this snow,,, so off to the resuce we go.

We're sending magazines to the solders and aid to Haiti. Maybe we should send you some studded snow tires.
Just go slow.

That welder has more Watts than a Searchlight, and more knobs and buttons than you'll ever figure out how to use!

Speaking of cold, I was driving home from Sugarloaf this a.m. and passed a guy on a Harley going the other way.  (He had a windshield and was wearing gloves, lol.)  The thermometer on the car said 16*F!!!  The sun was out and it was beautiful.
