History Quiz
« on: January 27, 2010, 07:20:48 PM »
Saw SSS post on home page about LSR video. I recommend anyone who has not ordered one(2009 speed week) yet to get it. We get one every year and I think this years is the best one yet. Great editing. Good job Mark.

I saw your car in there a few times.  The only thing that I didn't like about the video was that I couldn't rewind it.

Hey -- nice thread.  Thanks to whomever started it.

So - Mark Brazeau has offered to make a deal with landracing.com, and here's the quandary I'm in now:  He'll send me a couple of DVDs each month in exchange for me running an ad for his wares.  And -- I'll give those DVDs away each month as prizes - for something.  But what?  A contest, sorta like the one that Jon Amo used to run?  I don't have enough old-time knowledge to be the adjudicator, so one of you would have to step up and volunteer to be the boss-guy.  Some other form of contest, like maybe for the most MEANINGFUL posts in a month?  One for a bike and one for a car (post) each month?

Let's hear your suggestions.  Make it a workable solution and I'll send you the first of the DVDs.  How's that for incentive to help come up with a good contest?

Here's Mark's idea for a contest.  What say you ladies and gentlemen (and I interpret that moniker with great laxity)?

Mark said:

"Hi!

If the subject of the contest is History, I suggest the following idea.

You post one or two short clips from the "Good Old Days" DVD on your web-site. Contestants must identify and give a brief history of the vehicle. The contest lasts one or two weeks and then you select the winners by the first contestant to identify the vehicle and or the contestant who submitted the best informative history of the vehicle.

This contest would be a great way to acquire a lot of the history of our sport that may other wise be lost.

SSS - -

When it comes to land racing history, people like me (new to salt) have "two-chances" of getting a correct answer on an old
picture.

Perhaps, Jon, you could run two contests at one time.

My suggestion is an auction or bid type of deal where you can send in a bid to donate to Save The Salt for that month, through Landracing.com. There can be a running highest bid posted, with no name, and at the end of the month, the highest bidder wins and is identified. When SSS receives the donation, the LSR video is mailed out. The bidder wins and so does Save The Salt. And with Save The Salt, we ALL actually win.  :-D

How about one prize for the first correct answer and a second for the "best" (not necessarily correct) answer?

I'm working on how to get videos posted each month.  I like the idea -- it'll be fun for the folks with some history of LSR knowledge, and a learning experience for the newer folks (like me).  I'll have a pair of DVDs to give away each month, so we could have the first place and "pretty good guess" prizes.

Who's going to be the judge?  Is that something for me -- or will one of you step up and volunteer for the job?

How about a mix of both.... auction one, half to save the salt, half to LR.com and do a question of the month with the other.  Questions and answers sent to you by PM from members... you post one on the front page sometime (random dates) during the month and the first to start the thread and post the correct answer wins the other.   The winner paypals or or mails you $5 for postage or PMs you that he will pick it up at the Salt Talks...
This forces views on the home page where the advertisers are and makes good use of both videos.
Shall I send you $5 for postage for coming up with the best plan?
