The Brits are Coming!
« on: January 21, 2010, 01:27:19 PM »
Gabriel Uttley and his crew are coming to America in hopes of capturing the ultimate two-wheel record. They hope to reach 400 mph before all is through. Should be an interesting season.

Read their story here:

I sure hope that's an artist's rendition of the bike.  I don't see the landracing.com stickers that Gabriel got to put on it.

Nice article, Rocky.  Thanks for reminding us about the column you write.

I think the stickers got blown off in the simulated wind tunnel! (this is one of a handful of early renditions)
I wish these guys well. Saw Gabriel many times on the salt and always a smile and a friendly handshake. He was Jonsing whenever he watched us, Bub or Sam run.

Their engine program is the most interesting aspect to me. A V8 Hayabusa... how cool is that?

Wow.  Gabriel has been committed to this for a long time and, to use a Brit colloquialism, making use of the Hayabusa V8 is "brilliant."  This motor has proven itself in 4-wheeled racers and, unless my memory is fogged, has put out as much as 1000 hp with twin turbos.  Seems we Yanks and those Brits have been vying for top speed for so long, it's almost natural to have the Union Jack on our soil in the search for records.  Great article.  Hope my own Rolls Canardly is finished in time to be there and meet Mr. Uttley in person.

I interviewed Gabriel for the article about 2 months ago, but I've been talking to him about the project since 2007.

Good article.  Rocky writes that they will do some testing on UK airfields.  One of them mentioned is Woodbridge.  I am a retired Air Force air traffic controller.  Woodbridge was the last tower I worked in before I retired in 1988.  Just a bit of a nostalgic moment there.

It is so nice to see the word perfection in 3-dimension. A nice build. I hope to see it "live" at Speedweek.

It seems like their "Ace in the hole" would be that Suzuki V8 engine redesign, single crank. From the literature it seems to have power to spare.

Had they asked me,  :-) , about the only thing I would change is to take out the transmission and turn it around 180 degrees and do the appropriate redesigning. Of course, my opinion is worth what I was paid for it.

Thanks for the positive comments! We have made a major decision this weekend, which will be released soon, but be assured, we WILL be at Speed Week! The build is well under way.....lots to do!!!!! Anyone is welcome to come and talk with me and the team. Bonneville is a special place, with special people...need I say more? Regards, Gabriel.

Suzuki?!?! That's almost rude, considering there's a very clear Norton emblem on the side.
