:-o In 64 I saw a Chevy truck with a W motor that had down shifted  2 many gear steps coming off a step hill that the flywheel exploded into 3 parts cut the right fram rail into and took out the dash ---the same way---made me be fairly SANE in abusing my 65 442s clutch

Well, he certainly got the CG low in the chassis.  Probably sponsored by Playskool, "Weebles Wobble but they don't Fall Down".

Pretty important to get the car straight BEFORE the burnout.  Just a few inches out of the groove will do that.

I blew up my 59 GMC clutch, pressure plate, flywheel... Bell housing... Transmission case, and engine block. (331 SBC, M22 Muncie.). Knocked a bunch of shingles off of the house, and put a foot wide crater in the street. It broke 3 bones in my foot, and I dislocated my shoulder when I hit the door panel. Lucky for me I was wearing some old Navy jump boots, or my right foot would have been gone. Big hole in floorboard, dash panel tore up and wasted my Lear 8 track tape player.
I am a FIRM believer in approved scatter shields, strong floorboards, and sobriety when doing any high power activities :-D

PS ... I was 17 years old, and hadn't quite made it over idiot hill at the time... That's not a good excuse, but it's the only one I have and I'm stickin with it.

He could have lost a foot.  Makes a good case for a Stroud clutch containment blanket.

My 1968 Chevelle SS 396 blew a pressure plate on Christmas eve about 1974.  I had the motor wound up , with 4.56 gears, i  power shifted to 2nd gear about 6k RPM when the plate let lose, only a stock aluminum bell hosuing.

The plate cut the brake lines and partially the frame too

broke the distributor( killed the engine thankfully - no brakes), parts blew through the hood

Cut open the trans tunnel at the firewall like a tin can, broke the throttle pedal linkage , missed my foot by an inch or two

Since there was no bell housing , the engine rear dropped down, the muncie tail end went up into the tunnel and the drive shaft yoke rubbed a hole in the tunnel as the car ground to a stop.

ahh, the fun of being young and to live through it
