3 Ice speed projects in my garage , racecar, gocart & pitbike
« on: December 27, 2009, 02:41:19 PM »

here´s som info on whats going on in my garage at the moment !

1: Purposly built driftcar, an RWD Mitsubishi EVO 2 1994

     Stock topspeed with 15" 195/55 wheels, 240bhp is 240kph

I have three sets of different icetires to try out
#1: 145/80-15 iceracingtires with 3308mm studs in each tire (so called rally snowtires)
#2: 205/50-17 TOYO SnowProxes studded wintertires (stock street legal)
     #3: homemade icetires using 185/55-15 racingslicks with 25mm x 6mm bolts/nuts
fitted to the tires, 170pcs in each tire

     Enginespecs:
     Wiseco 8:1 pistons
     Wiseco pistonrings
     Eagle conrods
ARP bolts everywhere in the engine
     Clevite race bearings
     raceportad head
     Matchported intake/exhaust channels
matchported exhaust manifold (DNP) & intakemanifold
     Cometic multilayer steel headgasked
     1240cc B J P RACE injectors
AEM fuel rail, modifyed with twin 10mm entry & single 8mm return line
DN Performance ehaust manifold coated on inside
     Precision 680hk turbocharger
     Balanceshaft removalkit
NGK Bp6es sparkplugs with 0,5 gap
     10,5mm race ignitioncables
NX Nitruos kit (roughly 200bhp) coming soon
Oilcatchtank 0,75L using 3pcs small airfilter
     4" K&N airfilter (big model)
     VEMS fuelinjectionsystem

Running on E85 (Ethanol) as fuel, the engine gives about 550bhp @1,7bar

If I´m in 4th gear @ 2k revs & i floor it, then nothing happens, but at
4400revs the tires start to spin all the way to the revlimiter at 8500rpm  :-D

1500rpm higher revlimiter than stock which "should" enable me to reach 300kmh on tarmac.

2: "HYBRID" gokart 250cc

I bulit this kart to attend Swedish landspeedcompetition in June -09, but this was
cancelled due to sudden insurance issues.

So i have had some months now trying out what works & what does not.

here is a video of my friend Rasmus (15yrs old) attending a driftingpractice with the kart,
gearing in the video is 12/17 & he uses only seciond gear
http://www.garaget.org/video/3ceigabu97nk

nearly new 125cc shiterkartframe with only 2 races on it
.jpg]

Suzuki RM 250-91 ex: Chesterfield factoryengine: 55bhp+ & 5 speed.

Radiator is from an Honda NSR125R -98

gearing will be 18 front & 17 rear

0,28bar fuelpump with returnline to gastank

intakepipe

airfilter/exhaust

Batteryholder:

remowed front brakes

first time on wheels:

guarddog on duty

The 18front/17rear gearing = 262kph if the engine will reach 8500rpm in fifth gear, but with the
ice-racing"studds" fitted around the wheels, the gearing is about 12% higher = a lot & extra speed :-)

- New version studs:

- Old version studs with too much grip:

- Superkart frontspolier

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lk9x855IH4A - 154kmh using 50-60% throttle in 4th gear

-------------------------------------------------------

3: Pitbike 150cc Lifan MONSTER engine with aprox 22bhp when engine is completed in a few weeks.
Running homemade iceracingtires made from 5mm bolts with washers & lockingnuts.

Pics:

- can you spot the handlebars ?

- here they are :-)

- engine LIFAN 150cc 4-stroke

- miniature 4pot calipers

- rear tire, not 100% done yet

BTW, one of my favourite movies is - The worlds fastest Indian, starring Sir Anthony Hopins

Okay, let's ask, just for the sake of it -- who else enlarged the first photograph -- just to get a closer look at the car?

Just today i got my handmade front sprocket for the gocart:

its a hybrid between a stock front sprocket & the outer part of an front sprocket from a -67 Triumph 650.

so finally the gearing will be 18 tooth front & 17 tooth rear.

this equals about 60-65mph in first gear.... & i have 4 more after that  :-D

Looks like fun...

The pictures of the car with two lug nuts installed also caught my eye. :-o

How do you affix the screen with the spikes to the karting tires?

John

The picture is taken when testfitting tires. The rima are 1986 Saab 900,
so i did not know if they´d fit to a 100%, therefor 2 lugnuts.

empty the air in the tire, then press the "metalthingy over the tire,
then re-preassure the tire = its like its glued to the tire afterwatrds.

made an complete overhaul of the kart with a 10hour garagetime without a break....
 quite straining job.

but it had to be done anyways.

changes gearboxoil to ´76 10/40 racingoil.

welded a few minor cracks in the exhaust

found out that the exhaustvalve did not open at all... Humm, fixed it :-)
a 3mm thin steel rod that enables the valve to open via the gearbox/crankcase,
 had come loose.

the carburator did not open more than 70% due to an fringed (spelling?) gaswire.

tideied up the electrical system

fitted the "icetires" to the tires.

made a new steeringrack with steeringlinkage & adjusted it more perfectly

a friend found a frozen lake 30kms away, so we loaded his minaquad & the
icekart on my racetransporter & off we went to try out the new settings:

The result was, 85-90mph in 5th gear with 12/18 gearing, but very very much
instability with nuts & bolts coming loose after every run, wheelspin in every
gear no matter how much throttle percentage.,

Later we found the rear axle  to be NOT straight.

SO i need to get a new one... just 160dollars.
