A   stands for special construction makes sense right.  I maybe wrong they may have started out calling the class altered but the chassis modifications in the class are greater than most altered car classes, no production parts need be retained and they don't need to resemble the production bike in any maner.

For Bonneville Page 39 of the '76 book has same frame classes as the '84 except no side car provision.

For Dry Lakes page 49 of the '76 book, "Motorcycles participating in Dry Lakes competition are allowed to use any type of frame or streamlining that is consistent with the safety rules and good design practice".  No separate frame classes.

'69 book had nothing on motorcycle classes.  Page 1 "Inquiries about motorcycle competition should be directed to Earl Flanders, AMA Referee, [his contact info]."

I should have 71 and '72 books but haven't seen them in years.

This is kind of funny

The "A", does not stand for Altered(like I aways thought), but stands for special construction.

I wonder now with the new rule changes over the last few years if the "P" in the APS class now stands for "MOSTLY".

in my earlier post (pic ) you will see that the PS was production supercharged but A supercharged was AB there is probably a good reason but i cant figure it out ---now all of the supercharged classes are B --looks like they had it right S = supercharged then changed it to B = supercharged----the only thing i can figure is they didnt want to get the S confused with S for streamliner or streamlined--if thats the case when they changed from S to B why didnt it change from supercharged to blown  ----im getting a headache                                   willie buchta

S vrs. B

S(supercharged) was changed to B(blown) for the bike classes in order to conform to the car classes.

All in the name of consistency.

If supercharged is "blown", then turbocharged must be "sucked"
139mph with no bike, but with speedo and helmet.
