Steering wheels

OK, I know I should just read the rule book but this is a little ambiguous.

Do we have to have 2 steerable wheels on a 5 wheel streamliner or can we satisfy the requirement with one steerable wheel?  Does differential braking to aid directional control (not on its own, as a second control system) count as "steerable"?

2009 book page 38, paragraph 4.D, second sentence "Steering shall be assured by at least two (2)front wheels."
Unless it's crazy, ambitious and delusional, it's not worth our time!

Blue, you're in good company, Don Vesco tried the 5 wheel approach back around 1984 or so with the SkyTracker, that is when the rule was changed from front wheels to 2 front wheels.

As I recall the front wheel was split down the middle and the two side wheels retracted once under way. The front looked like a single.

Glen, I was thinking the back was a double and the Aluminum sides were fixed.  Front was a single... I would have to dig into the old pictures to see if I can find any that show it.
The rule wasn't there at all until 80 or 81... the year after those crazy guys crashed the rear steering liner for the second time... Then first rule required front wheel steering...
Those years have all blended together.... into the good old days.
