Good question, RF.  And I don't know if they helmets have a manufacture date on them.  The Snell sticker is very difficult to read -- being a rotogravure (shiny and not much contrast) and hidden way inside like it is -- I never spent the time to read it carefully to see if there's anything like a mfr. date in there.  I don't remember seeing anything like a date code on the outside of a helmet.  Tires, yes.  But helmets -- ???

It's my understanding that Bell M helmets did not have a mfg date on the helmet till sometime in '08. The Bell SA helmets have the date of mfg stamped on the inside D ring. Couldn't tell you about any others...

I was just at CV Race Products,,, Seems like Simpson will not have the SA2010 Helmets out until this Summer and they think Bell will be about the same time..

I have SA 2005 now and I need a side air helmet to work with the blower system,,,I am going to wait until the SA2010 's come out to buy a new one since the one I have is good for 5 more years.

According to Snell's website, SA 2010 will not be authorized for retail until after Oct. 1, 2010. Certification testing begins on April 1, 2010.  Heck, they are still testing/certifying SA 2005 until April of 2011.

not sure if this helps or not:

Snell SA2010 Helmet Announcement
Snell SA2010 and K2010 will take effect October 1, 2010. This date is one year later than the October 1, 2009 date set for Snell M2010 rated helmets. The decision was made this last week by the executive committee of the Snell Foundation’s board of directors.

There were several reasons for delaying the introduction of the Snell SA2010 and K2010 certification:
• The final draft of the standard is not quite complete
• SA2005 must be continued for at least the next year, in any case, in order to support the FIA 8860 advanced helmet specification.

Since Snell SA2005 and K2005 must be supported for a few years longer, and since no final draft of Snell SA2010 and K2010 has been distributed as yet, the introduction of SA/K2010 has been pushed back one year until October 1, 2010, which had been the date originally expected. It is hoped that the decision will allow Snell certified manufacturers of SA and K rated helmets an easier transition to the new requirements.

Let's be very clear here, tekebird's references below are for Snell M2010 certified helmets only.
Snell SA2010 certified helmets are not available for sale until October 1, 2010.

CAR GUYS..... If you have SA2005's  you may want to wait to upgrade/buy new Helmets until  the SA2010 is available after 10-01-10  (i was told Summer time,,but October is not far from summer  lol)

If you have a SA2005  you are good till 2015 anyhow,,, so I am waiting to upgrade until the new SA2010's come out.

Clarification: Depends when it was manufactured.
Beginning January 1, 2011, a Snell Foundation 2005 [or later] rated helmet will be required (Manufacture date not to exceed 5 years)
All enclosed cockpit car and motorcycle streamliners will require an SA rated helmet.

Steve,

Does that mean a guy could use a M rated helmet in a roadster?
