How much studs do you need to run on the ice?
Do you want to run an open rear or a loocker ?

I guess we are talking cars here? you can run without studs, but if you have them , preferably use more on the driving wheels. The more studs there , the better acceleration, but obviously the more studs then more friction slowing the vehicle down. Its probably a whole art form getting the mixture right, and it also depends on what temperature/condition the ice is in.
