Space Station and shuttle sighting opportunity
« on: November 25, 2009, 03:54:59 PM »
A very rare chance to maybe see your tax dollars at work; orbiting in formation around sunset.
It won't fit for the entire country, but some, weather permitting.
Click on your state, or use the bar at the top to go back for other countries.  :-D

Good Luck, and enjoy!

I don't why I can't get it to load as an "automatic" click on, but it leads to  a link when it's highlighted and pasted in the google box at the top.
Maybe John Noonan, or Ray might be able to reformat, as John did on another post.
Thanks, Guy.

I have been fortunate enough to see the station at least three times. Two of those were from the ground, one was from the cockpit of an airplane. Take a decent pair of binoculars with you if you can, you may be able to make out some details.

When it passes by, it looks much like an airplane only there are no blinking lights, you are actually only seeing the sun reflected off of it. Count how long it is in sight, then remember that it is moving in excess of 17,000 MPH!!! I'm sure glad they don't run in my class, there would be no chance of a record for me...
I almost never wake up cranky, I usually just let her sleep in.

Well, it used to be Los Angeles . . . 50 miles north of Fresno now.
Just remember . . . It isn't life or death.
It's bigger than life or death! It's RACING.

Yes, I'd rather do that than pay my mortgage.

Special THANKS again to John Noonan; you've obviously forgotten more about these "puter things than I'll ever know.

Also, THANKS to Dean; great shot ! reminds of the old movie "ET".
We just had a reelly great viewing here in Saltville.
Sorry if it sounds like something to do with final rights.
Just a manner of speaking.
Regards,

Jim

Thanks!

The kids and I went out front and didn't know what to expect, but both the ISS and shuttle were easily visible to the naked eye.

They were right where the NASA paper said they would be.  The little guy was following the big bright one.  They were visible in the same binocular field but not really close together.  In Oregon they are pretty close to the southern horizon.
