Body Panel Modification ?
« on: November 20, 2009, 05:22:40 PM »
I am not sure but hope some one can help me on here.

For my 1953 Studebaker (more info and pics in the build diary section)

I will be running in Classic Gas Altered

The stock body has a gas door in the left (driver side)  rear quarter panel.  Can I remove and fill the gas door opening in (smooth it so it looks like the left side) ?

I have the Satin Black paint on and had planned on leaving the gas door, but if I can smooth it in, It would be a good time to do it now (when we are ready to finish the paint job, and before artwork and lettering)

Thanks

Charles

Charles, when running the Merkur I did push the envelope a little in Production Supercharged, but didn't have the guts to do that body work when we repainted.
I did glue the door shut with clear RTV but did not fill completely to give impression of streamlining.

Later I ran the same body in GC and Altered with a N/A motor, but left that part of the body alone.

I agree, it would look really slick though.

Rick,  with the gas door on it does not look bad and it fits quite well... I was just wondering legality for my class as would look better "smoothed"  can't see an aero advantage,, but sure don't want to break a rule or push the envelope for cosmetic reasons.

It used to say "minor customizing allowed" Now it says "minor chrome trim and emblems may be removed" Not the same. Maybe you should check with the SCTA for a better answer.
