Need suggestions on push bar mount
« on: November 14, 2009, 10:02:21 PM »
I was thinking of mounting the push bar below the parachute mount.
I need to know how far back and below to mount it.
All thoughts and comments welcomed.

Thanks
Robbie

Robbie,

Did you make that Parachute Mount or buy it ?

Where does the main pull line attach ? and how ?

Charles,

We made the chute mount it's a dual chute mount with just one bag mount right now.
The main line attaches in the saddle right below the bag mount it;s a grade eight bolt with a bushing.
Picture shows a rough drawing of what i was thinking about doing.
I just don't want the chute line to get tangled up in the push bar that wouldn't be good.

Robbie,

Do you need a push bar to get going ?  Or is it to push to the staging/start line ?

Charles,

For now just the staging lanes, but when we put the big motor, 4 speed, and 2.48 gear we are thinking about push starting.
The SCTA rule book said all cars must have a push bar.
That's an other reason for the push bar.

Thanks
Robbie

Robbie,, I did not know a "push bar" was required by SCTA...  I was going to mount tab's through by front bumper and make a triangulated tow bar,,,.. then at the line just pull the pins and throw the tow bar in the truck,,, also the tow bar tabs through the bumper would be the place I hook my tie downs when I secure the car in the trailer as it will be hard to get under the car to hood tie downs in front.

I better read the book on the push bar... what page is it on in the 09 SCTA rule book ?

Charles,

I don't remeber what page it was on i got 2008 rule book.
Iknow it was in there because its on my list of things to do before we go to Bonneville.
I just assume it was so if you broke down on the course anybody with a push plate could get you out of the way instead of waiting for your crew.

Don't need a push bar.  Can push on the bumpers to get you off course.  Good idea using the tow bar mounts as a tie-down.

Charles - Rulebook 2.I  "All cars shall be equipped with a push bar OR (caps mine) a permanent tow attachment". Looks like your plan for dedicated tow bar/tie down points fulfills this. I gotta get up to Larry's and check out your build.      vic

If you do this, won't the tie downs go slack if the trailer hits a big bump?

I never have had the tie downs come loose ?  We use 4 tie downs,, 2 up front and 2 cris crossed over rear end.  all 4 wheels are also chocked in the trailer.

Charles,
Have you ever ridden in a trailer with the car going down the highway. I saw stuff move around way more than I ever dreamed. Granted it was on Pennsylvania roads which can be a little rough to say it nicely. I witness serious suspension movement of the car being towed.
Maybe if you don't have to travel through PA or OH it won't matter. LOL.
