slightly more progress on the rotary valve head. the outer of the rotary valve is to be nanocoated, the exhaust inner to be ceramic coated to spread the heat. Im not sure which treatment has to be done first - anyone know ?

Why don't you ask the guys who are coating it. They might have an educated opinion

Time to get my brake bench Dyno ready for testing, have made a logger for the computer. This is a water turbine which presses the 1 meter long arm down on a load cell. the weight result multiplied by the bike revs gives the power. no need for fancy calculations.

I swapped a bottle of whisky for this dyno, she was in a very sorry state , but now looking quite good.

I'll give you two bottles of whiskey for it if you want to double your money!  That dyno is probably better than half of the ones they use today, which are just accelerometers which can't give you a steady rpm hp reading.  What a great tool for trying all the "what ifs".  Also much better for testing longevity of the motor, which is ultra important in Salt flat conditions, i.e. 3 miles or more flat out.  Who cares if the reading can't be accurately compared to the other dynos; we only need to know when we improve our motors.  And you can use the wastewater to heat your house!

my little crankpin is now ready to be sent to hardening. Dont know how many hours ive put into this, but it is probably one of the most vital parts of the engine.

Keep up the excellent work John! I really want to race you when our bikes are road worthy, might have to look into renting an air strip for the occasion somewhere between Stockholm and Östersund. :-)

Yes Anders, that could be an epic race- Madness versus Insanity. I will take you up on that challenge. The loser provides a real party for both teams. I dont think we need need to waste our money renting an airstrip, the fines would probably cost less if we just race on the E4 motorway. But it could be difficult to decide on what we are gonna compete over :- flying K, flying Mile or how many KM or Mile, i guess each bike has different charachteristics. Mine has no gearbox either, so pulling away from the start line will be tough. You can probably get over 30000 rpm, mine will not go over 7000. It will be torque against rpm ? Befoere we grow up, we can take our bikes to the ultimate challenge in Bonneville, and let them rip. We only live once !- hopefully.

So today is the Swedish Midsummer party. My aim was to have the aluminium cylinder head finished off by today, so this morning i was down in the garage milling and threading the last water cooling inlet hole. Left to do on the head is buy the JIC AN couplings , and lathe out two slits in the bronze inserts.

The Rotary valve is as good as finished too, apart from the special coatings.

And the crankpin is hardened and ready.
