Aaaawwsome Anders, that would be so cool, but don`t ya think the bikes would fit in our suitcases?

Well, you know how much tools we use to bring to Speed Week in Orsa. For the Bonneville trip I would like to bring both a lathe and a tabletop mill to do quick fixes in case something breaks. My aluminum casting equipment and ac/dc TIG welder would have to come as well. And some other equally important stuff of course. :-)

just to get some idea of how much is left to do before the engine can run. Could this be the worlds simplest 4 stroke engine - very few moving parts ?

As regarding the hydraulic drive idea, i have to shelve it, since it will need a lot of cooling, i am told.


Looking great Ellwood, you guys take your projects seriously over that way :0


I keep hearing that hydraulic drives are hard to keep cool but I can't make the maths add up.

Most motors put as much energy into the cooling system as they do to the flywheel and we manage to keep them under control temperature wise.

If a hydraulic drive can run around 90% efficiency that's only 10% that can turn to some other form of energy so it should be manageable.

I`ve decided to dump the hydraulic drive, too much cooling system and no room to have it.
 Shall now take the power from both sides of the crank. This may save me from welding the crank when running on Nitro. Had almost decided on splines, but conical ends are easier for me to make, and will allow variator drive. I need to make a mod on the swingarm to allow having a shaft through it, between the swing bolt the back wheel.

gilmer type belts are very efficient

Yes Gilmor belts are cool and quiet, but i must see what width is possible, so may have to opt for a chain.

So now its time to lighten the piston, not a task i look forward to, because one wrong slip will set me back 300 dollars. Anyway managed to remove 60 grams here, and prepared my buttons for the piston pin. Need to get rid of at least 150 grams more from the CP top fuel piston, which started life weighing 862 grams.

slightly more progress on the rotary valve head. the outer of the rotary valve is to be nanocoated, the exhaust inner to be ceramic coated to spread the heat. Im not sure which treatment has to be done first - anyone know ?

Some precision holes, splined shafts and bearings left to fix. Otherwise looking good for start up 2014.

I'm speechless over this build.   :-o  All I can say is wow and phenomenal work!  I am not at all familiar with the motor you are using and my better judgement says it is a custom built 1-off motor.  Is this in fact the case?  Simply amazing stuff.  OK, I'm speechless again.   :-)
