Class again
« on: November 05, 2009, 05:05:30 PM »
Since I'm a bit too poor at the moment to buy a membership, and as a result, a rulebook, I have a few questions. Wondering what class my 98 Eclipse N/A FWD should be running in. Will there be any issues getting it through timing only without mods? It has a sunroof. Let me know, so I can start to set goals.

Rulebooks can be purchased without buying a membership.

I should probably wait for the 2010 version to drop?

If you wait for the 2010 rule book before starting you might not be finished before 2011 ...

I'll run timing only until I figure that mess out. I don't have the money right now because I have to fix it. For all intents and purposes, it's dead at the moment, out with a head gasket. Oh well, parts come tomorrow, some more on the way next time I get paid.

You need the rulebook even if Time Only, since it contains the rules for minimum safety equipment.  They are cheap enough to buy a 09 and 10, and a very wise investment.

Apparently, that last comment needed clarification. I will buy and study the rule book before I run. But I won't need extended time to prep, beyond say a month.

I'm sorry to say that I don't have any spare '09 rulebooks -- 'cause I'd gladly send one to you just for your edification.  You might not "need" one at present -- but it's good reading while in the bathroom, for instance, and also as an easy way for you to get the odd question answered without having to resort to asking on this Forum.  Maybe one of the other folks will have a spare book.  I could probably dig up an '07 or earlier -- but it'd obviously be out of date.

Best --

Yes - get a rule book.  The 2010s aren't available yet but the 2009 (if any are left) will answer 99% of your questions.

Assuming your car has the 2 litre engine - you would be in engine class G.

The Eclipse body puts you in either the Production Category or Super Street.

Have you made any modifications to the outside of the body? Wings? Fender flares, etc?  If you have it might not be legal in Production.

In production you would run in class G/Pro.

If the car is registered in your state and you have proof of insurance and you have all the required street equipment, you may run in the Super Street classes, either gas or fuel.  G/FSS or G/GSS.

Safety equipment.  If the car will not be exceeding 135mph you are OK with the original factory belts and will not be required to run a roll bar or cage.  If over 135 . . .well I suggest you get that rule book and study it carefully for the safety requirements.

In all cases regardless of class or speed you will need a proper helmet.

I suggest you come to the first meet and run Time Only.  If it turns out that you are within reach of a class record you can always switch to that class. (assuming your car fits the class rules)     Good luck.

G/GSS is 133.432
G/FSS is  133.742
G/PRO IS 130.850

All the records are below 135 so you can break the records without a roll cage.
You will need a SA2005 or better helmet  and factory seat belts.
Just dont go over 140 or Keith gets mad and talks junk to you.
Come on out and have a blast.
