V8 Quick Change
« on: October 18, 2009, 06:13:28 PM »
Had a great first time event not to improve the car.
Anyone have any experience running a Winters V8 quick change, The champ version does not have the right geat combo and the ultraliner is beyond our budget.
With 1 to 1 in hi gear we need 2:20 or so to keep the BB Ford under 6500

Thanks to all for your comments

What final drive ratio are you trying to get?

If you can't race it or take it to bed - it ain't worth having.

Once you get it -- don't do what Rick Yacoucci did, or maybe do do what he did.  He installed the gears upside down, giving him a much taller ratio than he planned.  The car ran 280 or so.  In impound he discovered his mistake and swapped the gears -- and his backup run was a 250-something.

Makes you wonder, hey?

Hi  we ran this year a 2:73 gear the C-6 and need to get into the 2:20 range but with the 8.8 rear that's not possible.
Options we see are
5 speed but that's a bit of a budget crunch
GearVendors OD but the final drive ratio is off as the ring and pinion go from 2:73 to 3.08 nothing in between that I have found

If you get the Winters with 3:78 ring and pinion you can get down to 1.80 .

I use a winters QC in my car and have found a great selection of gears on ebay for about 25 bucks a set.  Get a chart from winters or stock car products to figure out what set number you need.  BTW, I really like the ease of the quickie but the rear end noise is more than I expected.

Not sure on the Winters but a Halibrand V8 QC can be fitted with a 3.25 ring and pinion and you can get under 2.00 with it. A lot of cars with over 800 HP run them...............Good Luck
