The smell of speed, the sounds of horsepower. Retrun runs are underway.

Let's see if I can keep up with the cars: 9999 Rice Vigeant running 220 in the middle mile and 222.660 last mile -- backed up the record. Congratulations.
Rick Yacouccoi just backed up his record with a 230 or so -- and yesterday's 270+ on a 233 record oughta be enough.

Car 551 F/GCC -- ran 172 on a 171 record yesterday, today runs -- 172 in the 1/4 and 174 in the mile -- backs up his record.
308 The Hudson Boys next on the line. Ran quite a bit over the old record yesterday. This is the lakester with a Hudson 6-cylinder inline engine.
175 in the quarter mile 182 in the mile, 195.079 in the middle mile, 200.703 in the last mile. C'mon, Glen -- is that enough?
1122 The Spirit of Rett on the course -- qualified at 379 on a 377 record yesterday. AA/FS
No report from Glen. Will try to find out what's the story.
Next up is #342 V/FALT 132 in the quarter, 133.365 in the mile. Take it to impound, says Glen.

SSS,
I understand Johnny from Florida who runs with us at Maxton in the Black 9428 Roadster passes tech and is in line to run today.
When you or Rat get a chance can you update us on his speeds ?
I think he is running on a newly bumped up record of 117.xxx ??
Thanks to you and Rat for the pics and updates.
Hope Nancy has a GREAT run this morning.
See you in a few weeks.
Charles

I talked with Johnny this morning. He didn't pass tech -- they didn't like his bellhousing, so they worked late night before last and didn't get back to inspection 'til 1 yesterday afternoon. He's about 3rd back from the start (for regular qualifying runs after return runs end, in anouther little while). He'll run -- then will switch to fuel class if the car runs okay, but since he says there's only about 25 minutes on the motor -- that's a maybe.
Car 487 A/BGT on the record return run now -- Dave Pilgrim. Car is spinning.

Here's the Pilgrim Corvette as it was ending its spin.
There junk all over the course from that car and from a coupe that wasn't as lucky as SSS...he took out a 1/4 mile marker and broke his windshield. We're on hold at the moment.

That's what they call "gettin yer doors blown off." Usually a drag racin thing, but it seems to work here.
What really happened is that when the car came around, the air caught the deck lid and the door panel and ripped 'em off.
A couple more speed shots.

Okay -- back running. The CNG car just shut it off during the run -- no speed. Bummer -- no record, and he was in line for a Blue Hat if he had backed it up. Well, at least we're running again.
So the windshield of the 342 car detonated -- might end up having us rethink the tempered and sticky-back glass rule.
Tannis Hammond is next in the 77 car -- went 301 yesterday. Let's see what she can do today. The weather is still mellow and dandy. Not 50F yet, no wind, either. Hope it holds out this way.
Quarter mile: 268 Mile: 275 Middle mile: 292 Last mile: 301.577 Great -- that's a record!

The 132 Belly Tank Lakester runs a 210.731 in the mile -- backs up yesterday's 218. Go to impound. Nice old car, lots of patina -- a Swedish motif on the car (but hard to read with fading. . .).
Next on the return run line is Roy Creel and Buck -- 129.548 in the quarter, running on an open record. 131 mph -- go to impound for the #53 car.

The slammed ol' Buick is going down the course now. #1503 Jeff Brock. XO/GCC.
Quarter mile: 135.241 Mile: 136.311 mph. Ran a 131.798 yesterday, so that oughta do it for him.
I think that's Fred Vance on the course now -- sounded like him as he left the line. No report on the radio yet -- I'll letcha know. Running on a 181 record.
Quarter mile 201 Mile: 200.339 Middle mile: 202.224 Last mile: No report. Hope his middle mile was good enough yesterday. Congratulations, Vance and Forstall Racing.
JD and Patrick tone car 49 on the course now, Patrick driving the roadster. Qualified yesterday at 167.90.
Today: quarter mile 160.969 Mile: 163.723
