I know this is an old post, but very curious how the runs went, and updates on your class record chase ???

Have taken my stock kz900 to Bonneville and looking at doing something new with her, so this post was very interesting.

Thanks

I've made a few runs at El Mirage, the fastest being 152 and change. At Bonneville last year I had gas delivery problems and ran 129 and change.

Bonneville this year it ran in the 140s, much slower than I was expecting but it is what it is.

The engine is very mild with only 410 lift cams and less than 10 to 1 compression, cranking pressure is only 105 lbs per cylinders.

My initial plan was to work on the engine up to the point where it would run in the 170s, which was the A/G 1000cc record in 2010.  They have now allowed stock type late model bikes to remove their body work and run in the Special Construction class so I'm retiring the Kawasaki at the end of this season and building a new bike, new class, for next year. The Kawasaki is fun to ride and is as stable on the dirt as it was on the drag strip but it's to costly to build it to run with the newer bikes.

If you're ever at El Mirage come by and say Hi.

Why not swap in a newer motor, instead of building a new bike ?
I guess the answer is "a Secret" .

Yep, it a early seventy's modified 900 frame, 1976 900 cases, 1975 900 head, 1977 stock KZ1000 tranny and a welded KZ900 crankshaft.

I've thought about putting a late model Kawasaki engine but the way the class seems to be going I'd be better off to just buy a street bike and build up the engine.....but that's not my cup of tea.  So I'll be going to a different class where the rules are a little more defined.

Buzz, those pesky new production bikes.  In the old days the production bikes were slow and our homemade specials were faster.  Now it is the other way.
