Wing height for lakesters.
« on: September 17, 2009, 06:59:56 PM »
The rule book says "The wing shall be mounted at least "12" inches above the top of the rear tire as measured from any part of the wing." Is the "wing" defined as the horizontal surface or does the lower edge of the side plate have to be 12" above the tire?

Regardless of the rule definition, per 1212 , get it up in clean air -a seat of the pants rule of thumb is one chord  above any surface (not an opinion but from credited sources).

My opinion on the wording of the rule would indicate 12" above the ATTACHMENT point.

Is a chord similar to an octave?

(Clueless in Berdoo.)

Just reread my post and shoulda said  "the attachment points of the wing must be a minimum 12" above the tire' as a better guess of the rule meaning.

Hadn't had a cold one yet.

That would be the LOST chord, Sten, in yer case!
