I ran my first Rookie passes there this weekend.
First and foremost, I want to thank John Noonan for all his help on the phone, emails and PM's getting me to El Mirage and my first SCTA event.
Thank you John, you helped me get over the edge I needed with the bazillion questions. Your a great mentor and a great racer.

For those of you interested, I have chronicled my experience Here: http://www.southbayriders.com/forums/showthread.php?t=83989

Next, a sincere thank you to SDRC. Every member I met was very helpful, concerned to make absolutely sure I ran Safe and enjoyed my time out on the lake bed.

Last but not least, I want to thank the members of this forum who helped out with advice as well, and the folks of SCTA who helped this Rookie make safe and fast passes.

Since it was my first time out, I had to do E to C Categories. My speeds were:
129.561MPH in Round 1, 147.611MPH in Round 2, 157.351MPH in Round 3
I believe I was the second to last to run before the shut down the course.

I am looking forward to Bonneville to run as a Rookie there Oct 7-10, and return to El Mirage Oct. 25 to go after my Category B License.

Very nice write up on SBR and you picked the right guy in the SDRC to help you out with racing a bike. He has helped me out quite a bit, along with the rest of the SDRC. Congrats on a safe and successful trip.

Willie,

Congrats on your largest cut and past ever...

Did you figure out what was wrong with your bike?

Looks like we had a clogged injector on the open bike and too much power and not enough traction for the wheel on a stick machine.

Willie -- thanks for posting the rules of the Forum.  I guess I should consider myself lucky that, by and large, things go as smoothly as they do.

By the way -- this topic isn't about behavior on the Forum and I'll move it over to the appropriate thread if I have to -- but for now, since you mention it, Willie --

You folks do pretty well on keeping things light and not too insulting or rude.  Many of the comments aimed at (for instance) Kaz DO run against the preferred spirit of the Forum, but I don't chase down the folks that make the comments -- because I don't think it's what is needed to be the Boss.  I try and let you do the policing all by yourselves.  But there have been many times when the comments that were made -- most likely made as teasing or a joke or light-hearted -- the comments accumulated and turned into nasty-sounding rants, and pretty soon we have managed to chase another person from the Forum.  We want this (at least I hope we do) to be a place to interchange and share and have a fine time.  We've lost Jack Dolan, and apparently now Kaz, and others -- from what started out to be teasing someone that was expressing himself in his own personal way.  Maybe that way isn't what you (yourself) would choose -- but by repetitive teasing and hassling -- we've made folks elect to not share their stuff with us.

But I don't usually hassle any of the Forum members, because it runs pretty well without me trying to micromanage.  I sure intend to continue to do so, and would appreciate it if you all do the same.  If it seems that someone is being ganged up upon -- maybe ask the hasslers to lighten up on the hassle-ee.  Or maybe not -- but remember that you may be the next one in the gunsights of public teasing.

You're doing pretty well, folks, and I appreciate the support you give the Forum and the site -- not only the donations, but the conversation and input from you all.  Thanks.

Okay, back to EM September 2009.  Over and out.
