8 Monday morning and this is what I see out the windows:  Sunny to the east, with some pretty clouds in the sky.  To the south -- dark, dark clouds, but there's not much wind moving anything around.  The weather forecast shows NNE winds -- and radar shows not much up in that direction.  I'll let you know as the morning develops -- but right now it's not raining. . .that's for sure.

understandable on what the sky looks like, more concerned about what does the salt look like... Is is sticky? wet like it had rain? Puddles at entrance road still? Is it picking up on your tow vehicle?

Heading about in about an hour or so from Denver and see if I can catch up to the MSA Crew...

10Am and we're at Land's End.  We are sitting in the truck and there's a hellacious storm just to the south of us -- being driven towards thislocation on 20-25 mph winds.  There's lots of lightning -- and Tom Shannon's hat just took off towards the mountains.  The rain is starting to spatter us -- but it's not raining hard just yet.

A half-hour ago it rained fairly hard in Wendover for a few minutes, then quit.

Here comes the rain.  We'll stay put for a while and give you updates.  Don't turn around -- yet. . .

It's raining pretty hard right now -- and I've seen a few 1/4" hailstones.  A truck towing a race car just pulled onto the salt.  Some folks won't give up easy.

Yup -- lotsa hail right now.  Sure hope I've got hail insurance on the pickup.

Lots of thunder and lightning.  I can't see more than a few hundred feet through the rain.  Stay tuned.

It's about 7 minutes later and the sky is turning lighter to the south/east.  But it's still raining.  There are patches of dry/puddles of water right in front of us at Land's End.  The thunder is still booming, but not as often.  The truck-towing-car that drove out onto the salt during my last post -- is back on dry land.

Here come's a hardy soul off the salt -- headed towards dry land.  Doesn't look good for setting up right now -- but if this is the end of the weather -- maybe things'll get bacjk to okay real soon.

The USFRA folks are all holed up in their vehicles here at Land's End -- if they've got comments I'll let you know.

Jon, while you have a few minutes, apply plenty of lotion on Nancy.

Both of you will benefit from your attention to detail.

It sure is dry in Everett, WA.

Wow.  Not the rain, the on-the-spot reporting.  For me, as a garden variety spectator, I'll be refreshing the page until I know whether or not I get to enjoy the pleasure and privilege of boarding a Southwest cattle freighter to SLC in the wee hours of Tuesday.

Jim Burkdoll just drove up and says the first mile is unuseable right now.  He's heading out for a look at more of the course.  We can see about an 1/8-1/4" water on the surfacde, but it looks like it's soaking in as we watch.

Here are a few photos taken in the last coupoe of minutes:

Photo of Nancy will follow -- might have to ask for a personal viewing, though, Mike.

We're back at Land's End and it's starting to sprinkle again.  Ellen Wilkinson just walked past and didn't say anything about the event being cancelled or postponed or anything -- but did say to keep checking www.saltflats.com for the official news.  I'm going to go ask them to call us if and when there's an official decision/comment.

Here's the latest:  It's about ten past 11 AM and it's sprinkling on and off.  No decision about the meet will be made for a while yet today.  Jim Burkdoll, the race director, will have to make the final call.

Right now I've heard that at the three and beyond the track is quite a bit better (drier) than it is here at the Land's End area, and therefore maybe the course could be moved/set up down further.  That'll depend on Jim's survey and whether or not the weather stays mellow.

I'll get a call from USFRA if there's any decision made when I'm not in attendance (I hope they'll call!).

That's it for right now.
