El Mirage noobie ?s
« on: September 06, 2009, 02:47:33 PM »
I plan on dropping in for the Sept meet to spectate and photograph and have a couple of questions

Is there camping at El Mirage if not; local places to stay on a racers budget ie low $

Is there a schedule posted other than the procedures pdf on SCTA website

thanks
jim

Ask your question here! A large number of the participants in every class have an opinion on everything. (Some of them wrong, Noonan.  :-D)

Don't be shy to ask questions on the lake bed. Saturday might be easier. Sunday the racers can be a little busy. They all end up at the start line eventually, and that's a good place to take pictures and wander around.

The PA system is also broadcast on FM KWBS 88.7. If you have a CB radio you can listen to the chatter on channel 1.

Get there early on Sunday. If the wind blows it can all be over in a hurry. If the wind doesn't blow then the runs can be as late as 4:00.
And the run order is by season points so the fast guys run early, like Noonan.

I guess I should clarify that. The points leader is the guy who is the fastest over the previous record. The one and two right now are actually slow vehicles, but technically sophisticated.

The current #1 4949 motorcycle streamliner is running a 100cc engine but blinding fast per cc. (YOU try to get 120 mph out of 6 cubic inches)

The #2 2655 motorcycle is piloted by Kent Riches, who has gone blazingly fast in a car streamliner (279 mph) has run off the rails and is running, get this, an electric motorcycle. (149 mph on 6,000 watch batteries. :-o)
Well, it used to be Los Angeles . . . 50 miles north of Fresno now.
Just remember . . . It isn't life or death.
It's bigger than life or death! It's RACING.
