I have been catching up on some of the postings during the Bub meet. One thing that keeps being incorrectly stated is the 1% rule.  There is no such rule at least for FIM records. To break our record of 360.913 MPH you need to go at least 360.914 MPH timing is required to be accurate to 1/1000th of a second.

This one percent rule was when Dave Campos set the record - it would be very strange if they done this rule off....FIM changed a lot over the last years - also they had a freeze on a lot of classes and records - but I never saw a note that this rule was changed....

Could be that there is a confusion between FIM and AMA rule.

May be Mike Stanton who is a specialist for two wheels records can clarify this.

Porkpie the FIM rules link is posted on the Bub site just point out where the 1% rule is located. We have traveled half way around the world trying to get this record have had this record, lost this record, regained this record and I believe we know the rules.  The rule may have applied long ago when timing equipment and surveying was not as accurate as today.

Working on a couple of stories for Thunder Press and Salt Addiction. Got lots of great static shots from the pits but...I don't have one of those big bazooka lenses. Anyone got any shots of the Bub and EZ Hook streamliners in action? Please PM me or email me at: author@rocky-robinson.com if available for use.
Thanks!

The awards banquet was very good....outstanding food.....a little long due to the auction......due to the
economy the dollar prices were down, in fact the dollars ($1600) we put up for the sidecar classes is now
one of the bigger ones.  John Renwick from the UK. got the $800.00 for the fastest streamliner sidecar,
(we gave him cash this year due to the fact when he won the money last year, buy the time the various
taxes were payed for both US. and UK. he got $500.00)  Fritz Egli from Switzerland won the dollars for the "normal" sit-on sidecar. (208+ mph. on a Turbo/Busa...."wheel on a stick" outfit).
Actually, the fastest streamliner sidecar was Craig Anderson (Peg Leg Craig) but he was test running his outfit on "Run what ya brung" which did not count for the dollars.
I plan to increase the sidecar dollars for the 2010 BUB......I have been trying for many years now to get more interest in LSR sidecars, this year at the BUB we had 11 outfits competing for records and dollars....
so I have been somewhat successfull.  If we can get some of our roadracing sidecar racers to come an play with us on the salt......we should see some outstanding speeds for the future.  For the last couple of year we have had Rick Murray and his passenger wife Nida racing on the salt with us...Rick and Nida have been the main driving force in N.American sidecar roadracing, in fact they upped their record by 10mph this year on the salt...
Question authority.....always

Thanks for this thread... It was a blast reading and reliving.  This was my first time to the salt and will definitely not be my last.  I ran RWB and was elated to get 104+ on my 76 KZ and looking forward to learning and improving the bike for next year as we where only able to spend Monday on the salt.

Thanks again for the great thread and look forward to a years worth of learning and working on the bike.

Thanks Kaz. It's been a wonderful experience. I am addicted to salt and fast motorcycles! I'm not even close to being done yet.

The awards banquet was very nice. Big Congrats to Chris Carr and Dennis for the Top Speed Award.

Also to Fritz Egli. He struggled all week with handling issues. He is quite a gentleman, and I have my autographed copy of his book in my office. I hope to see him back next year!

I got a chance to dress up and wear my new red dress. Belen and I were comparing our manicures- we both had black nails from working on bikes. I think I heard 19 women racing on the salt this year??! Super cool stuff.

Fun time! I wish this pesky thing called work didn't take up so much time. I could race more  :-) Wish I was at WOS now!
