Doesn't look promising -- they've just rolled the transporter rig out of the trailer and to the rear of the bike.  Chris is out of the bike and walking to the support truck.

Thanks for the compliment.  No word on Sam Wheeler -- 'cause we've been miles away from the pits to capture the (hoped-for) start of the #7 Bub's run.  Looks like that ain't a-gonna happen now - so we'll saddle up, hit the trail, and get to the pits to try to find Sam and his crew.

Scott -- it's not fact after all.  They're in teardown right now, about 100 feet from me -- so i went and asked.  187 down, 185 return.  Dang -- ONLY 186 or so average.  As John said:  "Displacement is over-rated."

Great reporting on everything.  Following the event like this brings to mind stories of ye olden days when people would gather around the radio to listen to some historic event unfold.

Question:  What engine did they have in the Buddfab bike for those runs?

thanks,

Doug

First of all, Fireman Jim's blown 750, now with bodywork, ran a return run of 196.832 and got the record certified.  Is it Nick or Mick that's the pilot -- his Brit/Aussie accent made it difficult for me to tell.

Second -- it was the 125 in the Buddfab bike that ran that 186 number.

From the Buddfab Streamliner page:

We will run the Bub Speed Trails in Sept. and hopefully the World Finals in Oct.  Motors:  Kent Riches lent us a RS125 and we would like to try the CR80 with the turbo.
Well, it used to be Los Angeles . . . 50 miles north of Fresno now.
Just remember . . . It isn't life or death.
It's bigger than life or death! It's RACING.

Thanks, Dean (and also Slim) I missed that on the Buddfab page.  I only saw the part about the 50cc Aprilia and the CR Honda.  It boggles the mind that they could run 186mph on 125cc engine.  I'm a bit of an Aprilia fan so it's cool to know they did it with the Aprilia rather than a Honda.

I heard this from Ray the Rat:  The Sam Wheeler crew found too much salt in the  bike and took it to town for a carwash/douche.  I do not know if the salt was there in advance (I doubt it -- it's been months since the bike was run) or if the salt was from today's run.

I'm just back from Wink's pit.  Ray was riding the 3000cc-class bike and he's the one that hit a timing light earlier today.  So they've taken the front wheel off the 59-SCTA/BNI record, 2 AMA record bike and put it on the one that hit the light.  But Ray says he doesn't want to make a run -- so they've switched it to pushrod fuel and will have Wink, hisself, make a run.  Who says you can't have fun in this sport?  First photo is the donor bike, second one is the recipient.

Other photos now that we're in the pits:

Alan Cathcart's #72 Triumph.  Look carefully at the air funnel just below and to the inside of the headlight.  I was told it connects "...to the torpedo room, below. and now you know one of our secret weapons."

Here's Alan chatting, and here's his full-wet rear tire (roadracing tire, he says, and homologated for 320 kph (these Brits talk that way, you know).

I wish I knew how to get more than two or maybe three photos per post - without having to go to photobucket or something, without making the exposures smaller files.  I want good shots for other reasons -- but have to make all these small posts to get them to you quickly.

Tom Mellor runs a 139.762 mph.

Here are photos of PegLegCraig's side car rig, with Craig in the background, admiring the landracing.com bumper stickers just presented to him by yours truly.

118.007 mph for a Norton Commando.

Final photos in this batch -- Bob Bakker's rig, withno clothes on it, getting cleaned.  He says they're getting the bugs out (soto speak) and hoping for more fun in the morning.

It's got an electric tach -- don't forget to shut it off and save the battery.  Note the THREE notes to rider.

Thanks to Jilly Callen/Iverson Originals for the donation.  Stop by our pit at World of Speed or World Finals or find us at the Shootout and claim a bumper sticker, please.  Or -- email me a mailing address and once we're at home we'll send one of 'em to you.

Scott Stites on bike 187, making a return run.  Down run was 175.472, this run is 179.412.  The announcer says his radio link is farkled, but he knows that what he did hear is over the 170 Scott needed to back it up.  By the way, is that a number change -- he was 1187 before this?

Announcer got his radio working.

Fritz Kott's #491 '08 Blast, piloted by Richard Klingler (?), runs 156.044.  That's one heck of a speed for a B-last -- what'd I hear wrong?

169.162 on a ZX6R just now -- not Fritz's bike -- someone else.
