We just went to the int'l course long start line -- not many people, no Sam Wheeler.  We're heading for the pits now.

Not much wind out here, either.  Salt is better -- we're on the crunchies on the access road, and it's drier than it was just six hours ago when we got here.  78F on the truck thermometer.

The primary chain that links the two motors together broke. Because of clearance issues it took out the cases also.
JonA,
I thought this was still Max's fabbed gear drive in there linking the motors together? Or is it a standard (or as standard as it gets for Max anyway) chain setup to the trans and you mean linking the rear motor to the clutch?

Okay, we're almost back on the Salt.  Did a quick run to lunch and supplies.
Lunch? I didn't know we were allowed to leave our computers to go to lunch?

If you are enjoying the photos that Ray the Rat is taking (and I'm posting) -- please consider sending a donation to the site (use the Paypal button on the home page) and earmark it for Ray.  I'll make sure he gets it now (not once we get home) to defray his personal costs for the work he's doing.  He just called to say he's got more photos for me -- I'll post either on the Forum or in the Gallery (there are new ones there this morning, as well as yesterday's).
Todd

Just on the radio:

The #666 liner (ominous number - don't think I'd choose that one, but whatever they wanna do is okay, I guess) -- anyway, he was making a long course return run and the chute deployed in the first mile -- pulled the bike over and it barrel rolled a few times.  The rider is out and cursing (I imagine) -- but okay.

Todd -- lunch breaks are allowed.  Don't tell me you didn't take one.

Some more Ray photos just handed to me.  I'll put 'em in the Gallery.  We're sitting at the entrance to inspection/impound -- watching quite a few bikes still arriving.  Runs are going along -- no sign in the staging lines of any of the 'liner bikes.

NARider,

You are correct on your statement... But it did take out part of the cases....

JonW

Any pictures of the #666 liner, not familiar with it...

I can't carry the 'puter and walk through the pits and get photos and data -- so that's why the interruption.  I got photos of the 666 -- will put 'em up, but first -- it's a 1000cc Norton engine in there.  The tilt sensor got too much vibration and fired the chute during the run-up -- the chute deployed and pulled the bike over.  They're repacking the chute right now.

Here are some of what we just took in the pit stroll of ours.

Scott's bike with aero mods -- this cutaway fender passed tech:

Other stuff includes Scott, Cami, and Sienna, enjoying her first visit to the Salt:

You were asking about this bike -- with the questionable front wheel.  They got it okayed in tech -- Bob Bahn, the rider, made a pass but couldn't shift.  It's a custom tranny -- looks like bent shift forks.  They're working. . .  Note the nice uphosltery -- not your regular race bike seat.

Here's another shot of the 666 liner:

By the way, Don Pearsall's 217 was the second-fastest run of the meet so far -- Richard Assen's 226 (wasn't it the speed, earlier?) is still fastest.

They've just announced that no FIM wannabees are going to be allowed to start after 4PM (a little less than an hour from now).  They sound like they're going to try to shut down at 6 tonight (the FIM 2-hour window, you know).

Denis Manning is at the long end of the Int'l course, ready to run, waiting for the wind to subside.  I see about 6-10 from the east here in the pits - that'd be from right to left as the riders head to the north.

Sounds like Don hurt something on the bike -- smoke coming out after that 217 run.  I'll see if I can find out anything.  Int'l course on hold.
