We ran a babbit motor once just for fun.  We managed 5000 rpm easy.  Babbit isn't really a problem at all.

Last year Pete Richardson #1931 VGC ran my babbitted street V4F because his race engine blew on the dyno the Saturday before he was to leave for Bonneville.

Three drivers made seven short course passes.

He later told me that the last pass hit 4900 rpm  :-o with lots of wheel slippage.

Before re-installing the engine into my hot rod I checked clearances and had to remove one shim from the rear main, all others were well within specs.

YMMV.
