Best set the clock for late February
We have not long finished at Lake Gairdner. So no date for 2018 yet.
See you in '18

Thanks, bones. We have plenty to do to get ready so

the exact date is not needed yet. It's always February.

We are quietly tearing the sheets from the calendar but not to overlook

the day that recognizes our Mothers, I'll post this floral based greeting

to our precious Mothers. Without her it just wouldn't be happening.

With the Target 550 team doing the necessary things to be

ready for Australia in 2018 there are still several items that

they would like to test. The new shafts in the quick changes

and the new parachutes.  The condition of the salt dictates

what will be done.  Marlo is going to the Test and Tune at

the end of this week.  He will make his decision about running

at Speed Week depending on three items. The thickness of

the crust, the length of the course and how smooth the

surface is. The tests will be in the 400 MPH range and so he

will be very critical. The chute package is new and with the

stopping depending on them Les needs to be certain that

they do their job. The reengineered quick change shafts

must be able to take the shocks that they experience from

the roughness of the course.  So Marlo will be deciding how

well the Speed Week course can answer these testing questions.

As soon as he returns from the inspection trip I'll tell  what

his decided.

Glenn,

Thanks for the update. Glad to hear there will be NO OFF ROADING for the Target 550 Team.

If the course is the same as last year we need more SALT everywhere.

I had a chat with Marlo regarding his decision to test the chutes.

Even being there for parts of several days, as of now he does not know.

So I'll stay in touch and as soon as I know, all of You will know.

I don't don't speak for him. I relay what he tells me.

(I just had a surprise. An auto spell check corrected the word,

speak, for me. Now it messed up and changed it to speed.)

I should  have voted in the last election.

The Russians would have changed your vote, Freud!  :x
The Russians don't seem to have a good salt flats but they do have Lake Baikal in the south of Siberia. The oldest and deepest lake in the world, during colder months it freezes and forms one of the flattest surfaces on Earth.  :-o

The SCTA sent out an email on the 10th about Speed Week.  They claim four courses;

#1 - 8-9 miles
#2 - 8-9 miles
#3 - 5 miles
#4 - 3 miles

Justin, what you are posting is correct, but mine had a few more words included.

Course#1.........8 to 9 miles, Mother nature permitting.
Course#2......8 to 9 miles
The Short Course.........5 miles
The Rookie Course.......3 miles

The SCTA is pleased to say that there is more salt this year compared to last year. The course prep team has another trip planned for mid-July to do some additional work to the courses.
Our traditional Long Course (#1) is coming back to life this year and course #2 is shaping up better than last year. It is in our opinion that the increased thickness of the salt is a direct result of 558,456 tons of salt return from Intrepid Mining Co.

We will be praying to the Race Gods and Mother Nature for their cooperation, as well

This is fantastic news, but, it's very different from the reports from the test-n-tune.  Where is Course 1 relative to the t-n-t course?
