The beer can holder is on the drivers side. He will find

both the holder and the wheel w/o any guidance. For

all the problems we have seen him solve, finding the

drivers side will not be a problem. There is a lockout

on reverse so that can't be an issue. SA Mike wins.

Our successful day of running was annihilated by the crash of

Sam Wheeler in his streamliner motorcycle. Sam was the next

vehicle after we made our run at Mike Cook's Test and Tune

on the Bonneville Salt Flats. Excitement was high when it was

announced that testing would resume on the Bonneville Salt Flats.

That all came to a screeching halt when it was told that Sam

died during surgery in Salt Lake City. He was such a gentleman.

Anyone that knew him had only positive things to say about Sam.

Our condolences to the Wheeler family. As we mention families the

small group of people that are attempting to break the 400 MPH

goal, Mike Akatiff, Ack Attack bike and Denis Manning are now

without one of a small group of racers. It is so saddening.

I'll write a summary of the Treit and Davenport events in a

day or so.

Sorry to make this announcement.

The first run for Target550 that used all of the transmission has been done.

Les Davenport is well satisfied with the course. There is one rough section that the car handled just fine.

Les had trouble seeing the tach and shifted way to early. The HP of the engines picked it up and hauled the mail.

When he couldn't see the tach and could not tell the engine RPM he shifted about 2000 RPM too soon into 4th.

The data showed a very strong speed increase.  When the chutes were deployed instead of one and then the other

both came out at once. The video showed that one chute panel tore out immediately. Stopping was no problem.

Mike Cook has 3 miles of available shut down area BEYOND the  8 1/2 mile course. It's a real joy to be able to run

as soon as one is ready. Mike will make any adjustment that we request. It is SO unfortunate that Sam lost his life

yesterday. His was the second run of the event, immediately following our run. We lost a real racer and gentleman.

I'll post another page regarding Tuesday yet tonight.

Thanks for your interest.

Marlo and Dan Warner after the run.

Oh Ya, the run was 359 MPH.

Freud, thank you for the information about Sam Wheeler, very sad.  I can remember seeing his 208 mph Norton streamliner in 1970.  It was a beautiful bike, but very scary construction wise.  The streamlining was superb.  The EZ Hook streamliner was a beautiful design and construction.  After seeing Don Vesco fall over at 300+ mph many times, I always thought that motorcycle streamliners were reasonably safe as long as the chutes work in time.
The Bonneville scene has lost an exceptional man, all our prayers and thoughts to his family.
Thanks again for the information, good luck to Marco and crew for future safe running.

Wed Noon.  Morning run stripped the quick change gears. Nothing really to report.

The event is done for Target 550.

More later.

Sorry to hear about Sam. RIP and Godspeed.

Ouch on the Quickchange gears. On a high note you were able to make 1 complete and one partial run and get some valuable information. Thanks for sharing.
