There is less time and organisation required for me to get to Bonneville that to get to Lake Gairdiner
And Lake Gairdiner is only 1300 kilometers from my place

Freud, get those big sheets of grey plastic that they roll out over concrete floors and bridge decks when the concrete is curing.  The plastic is thick and strong enough to be walked on.  Roll the car onto the middle of the sheet.  Pull the plastic up over the ends and sides of the car.  Roll it together over the top of the car and tape the rolled together part down to the covered car.  This seals the whole vehicle up just fine.  Put a dehumidifier or two in the car to make sure it stays dry.    .

Just protecting the metal from rust is an absolute must but how do get the numerous
hidden pieces covered?  You will certainly find out what You missed when you get there.

That would certainly be a challenge, I recall reading about the military learning that lesson trying to ship fighter planes to the South Pacific during WWII.
As I recall, the first batch of P40's that they sent down there were so corroded by the time they got there that they had to cannibalize them for parts as they were not flyable.

See page 421 here:
http://www.ibiblio.org/hyperwar/AAF/VI/AAF-VI-12.html

Oxygen scrubber chemicals and dehumidifying chemicals can help a lot as does vapor barrier packing materials but I would hate to try to pack something that large to be sure it was properly protected for an ocean voyage. It would not be cheap either!

Looking forward to seeing the car run this year God willing.

Nice to hear you folks are all primed to take the first good opportunity that appears for a good racing surface.

Well it's now official. The effort is being directed to the trip to OZ.

The "to do list" has been started, contacts with shippers, arrangement

for transportation on the ground over there.....................

The daily list looks like a contract for the repayment of an unsecured loan.

After I have a chat with upper management I'll post on Target550.com but

I will leave a note on here to direct you to our progress.

Since the flooding of the salt flats by the recent rain storm, the decision to

run the Target 550 'liner in Australia in 2017 seems like a good call.

Marlo Treit informed the Australian Speed Week authorities that he

plans to run in their 2017 event.

Hang on folks.  The wheels are turning. Maybe I should say, "clean the

containers and get the propellers turning." Australia, here we come.

Great news, Thanks Freud.

Marlo,Freud and crew. You might want to talk to Al Teague and George Fields on what they went through to ship everything down under.
Hope it's still a go.

If we think parts are expensive just wait until the estimate

comes for transportation to OZ.  This is something that we

are not prepared for.

Our research is well underway.

It's the first time we have had to deal with another government.

Now we will begin to understand what they face when they do B'Ville.

  Freud,
You might get some help about shipping , etc. from Chuck Haynes in Billings Montana. He has made many trips with his Jet Dragsters Down Under. Probably over 20 times. He will help any way he can. Let me know if you need contact info.

Thanks Doug.

I'll be talking to Marlo today and will tell him.

I don't have any idea what info he has stored but

any amount can't be too much.

Thanks for being part of our plans.

I believe it was Dick Williams who organized the 1995 International Speed Challenge that brought five US teams to lake Gairdner. Dick would be able to cover all the logistics and red tape encountered to bring those five teams to Australia. No easy task, for sure. The last know phone number I had for Dick is 408-722-4419.

That is correct, Dick Williams organised all the logistics for the 95 Thunder Down Under trip. The container was delivered to the end of the road at Gairdner, we unloaded there with customs clearance & dragged our stuff out on to the salt. 27ft of Betsy on a 16ft trailer behind a Falcon Ute is something I will never forget. :-P

Glen I posted this after our trip in 06 a bit old but it may have some usefull information.

http://www.landracing.com/forum/index.php/topic,1108.msg11085.html#msg11085

I don't think Marlo's liner will fit in a container I would wrap it in the shrink plastic they use for boat storage.  We did not have any corrosion issues shipping in the container. Weather is always a consideration the attempt Dick Williams organized was rained out as was our attempt in 06.

We are also looking at going again in 17 if Bonneville doesn't work out this year. Bolivia is possibly back in the picture since I gave the presentation at the renunion we sent one of our crew to a Uyuni he reported the wind conditions I have been tracking are from the airport and conditions at the salt flats which are surrounded by mountains are often calm we are doing more research on this. In 06 I estimated the cost to make the trip it turned out to be more than double the estimate.
