For people that have followed our site for a long time you may remember

the students from Granite Fall High School, Granite Falls, Washington.

The Shop Girls stole the show. The Boys were there also.

The person behind this remarkable story, Michael Werner, has been

recognized by a State Award. Check this url for our contribution to

this marvelous group:  http://target550.com/gallery/130_granite_falls/index.html

Then after you read about them, go to this url for a story about Michael.

Here is a follow-on article about my Teacher of the Year award from today's Everett Herald mentioning a few things dear to me and what we do. Okay - Back to Work now!

http://www.heraldnet.com/article/20140707/NEWS01/140709411/1172/Manufacturing-innovation

He is a treasure.

It is my pleasure to know him.

Mark we appreciate your support. Marlo and the support trailer had a late

start and Korey and Dickey with the long trailer and the car are ahead of him.

Generally they leave at midnight and drive straight thru. Not this trip. They will

spend the night someplace and pull into Wendover Tuesday night. The tent people

from SLC will be there Wed morning to erect the 20' x 60' white tent. They GUARANTEE

the tent in heavy wind and have been correct in the past. We will have a foto session

Thursday at sunrise and then the car goes to inspection. Or I probably should say it will

be inspected. That may happen under the tent. It is a big car to move round if not necessary.

I plan to post fotos from the salt............not just of our car but somewhat like Ray. If there is

a hot spot I will do it during the day and if not I'll do it from the room after we get to town.

I'll also put a teaser on Facebook and some images on the Target550 site in the news section.

We are just finding out how experienced Ray was with the web site. It is huge and he was dedicated.

Thanks for your well wishes.

I will do what I can to keep everyone informed.

Hi Folks. I have 20 minutes to write this and post it before I have to return to the salt.

Treit and Davenport made their maiden run this afternoon. The car was fueled, oil in the engines

and water for the prep. Started the engines and they were strong. Then the car was taken to

the starting line and Les Davenport put on his fire suit and was ready to start the engines. SInce the

exhaust pipes point rearward it makes much better sense to fire the rear engine first. The battery

pack was connected and when the starter button was pushed......noting happened.  Cables were

connected on the front  engine to test them and everything was A-OK. Back to the rear engine and

it was determined that the solenoid had died since the engine was run in the pits. All the time Les is

cooking in the cockpit. They wired around the problem an started the engine. Same drill on the front

but there was no problem. Instant start. Pushed across the line and Les pulled away. The timing slip

says 166.81 MPH at the timing traps and the data logger showed 251+ when he pulled the chutes.

Chutes worked. Car stopped and was reloaded to return to the pits. It's not a Salt Virgin any longer.

I have to leave for a foto shoot with Peter Vincent and Pork Pie. This meager post shows how much

Ray Therat is missed and always will be.

More later,

Freud;

Check the location of the starter solenoid that failed. The heat may have eventually cooked it.

I lied an now I am paying for it.  The terminal speed was 272 MPH. He ran a little past the lights.

The timing slip will show 166. Sorry I lost my head.

But it is a lovely evennig here with a marvelous double rainbow but the parking lot i dry and so is the track.

The worst night in Wendover beats the best night at many other locations. This ain't a BAD night.

Tomorrow morning the front transmission is coming out. I didn't behave as we would have liked.

My bartender just did a twist top Bud Lite but I am so disciplined that I continue to peck away.

Rufus is a runner with a lotta class.  There will be an entire post dedicated to Rufus..very soon.

I think there will be a way for the fans of Rufus to support some needed changes but that's another twist top. OK?  OK !!!!!

As long as the wi-fi here at the 6 works I'll do more reporting later.

Long live Rufus and R A Y !

Wishing all on the Target550 team the best of luck and some good and safe sorting-out runs. There is something to be said about driving in a strait line (photo)
I so wish I could be there......
