You got a good kid.

Somebody has him on the proper path.

FREUD

Freud, you have it all turned around, it is Gus that keeps me on the proper path.

Thank you for all you do, Don

Congratulations to Gus as being awarded a scholarship by the SCTA.

That was at the SCTA banquet Saturday night, Jan 25.

Since I'm still sitting here in a motel in Ridgecrest, Ca (Burb is gettin fixed...I hope), I finished up the post that shows what went on during the photo shoot that was done after the car was re-wrapped in black.  It's unreal the way these guys (Swanson Studios of Portland) went about it.  Here's the link:

Enjoy,

Thanks for the kind words, man.  Here's a suggestion: do what George Barris did.  Learn to be photographer.  And he did it with a Rolleiflex and 120 format film.  His reasoning was that he couldn't get the car mags to send their photogs out to shoot his cars, so he'd shoot his own stuff and submit a pretty complete story.  It worked.  His stuff started showin up in the mags and he did really well...until he proclaimed himself as the "King of the Kustomizers."  The swollen head kida hurt his credulity as a real "car guy."

One last thing to tell ya. Freud has shot most of the photos in the build diary.  He's been a mentor and real good friend to me.

Here's another small post showing the liner at the GNRS:

At most times, it was hard to get close enough to shoot photos.

Enjoy,

Thanks Ray, Checked out the pics.

I liked the one where you couldn't find your glasses. :-D

A familiar story.

When I finish the long car I might be able to afford a camera.

I found an old Minolta XG or something here that has all sorts of lenses with it but it's pre digital. :-P

Ray tried to duplicate the Baja 1000 in California.

25 miles on the rim thru the weeds after using up his spare.

Finally got to the highway. Two CHP fellows called the flat bed tow

that took him 85 miles.

He now has several new wheels, 4 new tires, new front brake disc

and caliper, new brake line plus a front end alignment. 3 motel nights

while he waited for parts. He stopped at Lands End and said a prayer.

No more off roading. I'm more than happy he survived.

After I did some thinking I must say........Ray has done the majority of the posts in the last several months.

He was in Aurora at Marlo's shop when the car was prepped for being rewrapped. He did the shoot of the

new black wrap. He covered the huge photo shoot following the new black wrap and he was first to arrive

at the GNRS. He covered the placing of the car in Building 9 and was on duty for 4 full days. In his spare

time he did the trouble shoot on one of the team laptops. He also has done all of the posts that have appeared

on the Target 550 site in 2014. I better get to producing.

We are blessed to have Ray as part of the Target 550 team.

Not one flat tire, but two and drivin over about 80 miles of Jeep trail with three tires inflated.  There are photos of the carnage in the GNRS thread.

I'd been given directions to a "shortcut" to bypass a road that had been closed due to washouts from last year's "monsoon."  I would have been much better off driving the 180 mile "long way" to get to where I was going (and never got to) on pavement.

Just another adventure.  :)

Doc, thanks for all the kind words.  I feel very honored to be part of the team.

I got home yesterday and spent a lotta time sleeping.  I may do the same thing after going to the post office and picking up a month's mail that's been held for me.

On the way home, I made a quick stop at Land's End to check things out.  The salt's under about 6" of water.  I'm hoping (along with the rest of us) that it will result in a hard, smooth racing surface in a few months.

Now with the loss of Ray there is some luster lost for the moment.

Ray will always be remembered and we will always miss him. He was a great artist and a good friend to all of us in the LSR family.
