A short post related to the display at the Portland, Oregon Swap Meet.

Here is the url:  http://www.target550.com/gallery/213_portland_swap_meet/index.html

It was an amazing weekend. There were many people that didn't even know that the car existed

and they were overwhelmed.  Quality was Job #1.

Not a lot to show but maybe you can get the feel of the presentation.

I am going to Aurora, OR the first of the week. I will do fotos and have a story by the next Friday.

Phone messages give me info but it is much easier conveyed with fotos to assist in the description.

Prep for the first tests is being done. At this time Marlo does not know exactly when or where.

He had planned on the Ohio Mile in June but may not make it. All of the parts that were used for the

build that were not exactly what he wanted are being replaced. The engines are started frequently and

drive system essentials are being fine tuned. Les Davenports responsibilities at the drag races interupt his time on the 'liner.

As soon as I get there, do the fotos and return home I should be able to present a great post.

THANKS for the interest.

Thanks for the follow-up. Hopefully the liner will make it to Ohio sometime this season as I'm sure there are bunch of us "eastcoasters" that otherwise would not have the privillege to take in the detail and craftsmanship let alone see the work of art make any kind of pass.

Thank you for all you have done.

Believe me, Capt, I am as anxious as everyone else.

Actually not posting has left a big hole in my structured lifestyle.

Now that the posts are so infrequent I miss it. I talk to Marlo frequently and one thing I have learned is that he has been

making numerous trips to the hydraulic fitting supply house. The fluid that is used in the steering system is so thin that the

hose couplings leaked. They have had to lap every fitting to make them seal. I'll try to show that when I do the fotos.

Some items have had to be relocated to improve workability. That will all be shown. Then I will do video of the start up system

where they start it on propane and switch over to the alky.

Yep......I'm excited about this and I'll be back in the saddle once again......even if it's only for one ride now but I'll be planning

for the next one.

At this time testing only seems possible in Ohio. Not likely in June but hopefully in July.

East coast fans we look forward to seeing you and letting you experience this car.

I promise that I am dedicated to keeping this project available to our fans.

After all, it's a fix to which I am addicted.

The bridge that collapsed on I-5 Northbound at Mt Vernon Washington this evening is

about 8 miles South of where I would turn off to go to Hume's shop.

It is the North bound section of I-5 and it carries a lot of traffic.

I could take a highway that is about 5 miles East of I-5 to get to his place

but I can't imagine how busy it will be until that bridge section is replaced.

This will make national TV news either tonight or Friday morning.

No race cars were damaged in the filming of this event.

I posted about 1/2 hour ago. We now know that a truck with an oversized load

was too far toward the outside, should have been in the center lane where the

vertical clearance would have been greater, and the high load took a cross member of

the bridge out and the bridge collapsed into the Skagit River. it is not more than

15 feet deep right there. Three people have been taken to the hospital and no fatalities.

The truck continued on and cleared the fallen portion of the bridge. He is parked on the

shoulder of the freeway just South of the accident scene.

After viewing the pictures of the bridge collapse, it seems amazing that there were no fatalities (thank goodness).

That would have been a wild ride.

National news has made a mess of the reporting.

A tall load on a truck struck a crossbeam and with the weight of the load it cause the bridge to slowly buckle.

The truck didn't stop. It made it across before the bridge buckled and parked on the shoulder of the freeway.

There is NO DOUBT what cause it to collapse.

No one drown and no one was seriously injured.

We can see 3 cars in the water. The reports say only 2 were involved.  BS

They sure won't be making statements regarding how long before it's fixed.

One thing is for certain. There won't be any Canadian trucks speeding thru

Mt Vernon for a while.

I've come to life and have a new post.

Generally the posts relate to the streamliner.

When I make a trip to Oregon I'll show all I can of the 'liner.

This time it relates to it's builder and his present project.

Both the builder and the car are rare.

I have many questions that are unanswered.

Maybe some of you can fill in the blanks.

Jim is a real inspiration, he finishes what is probably the finest landspeed record car ever built and then starts on a 32 three window! I have to say that the front suspension is pretty unique, sliding column with remote springs/shocks. Different.

Yep.  That's a VERY interesting front suspension.  But don't forget that Hume's also building rocking chairs.  LOL!

Those hold-down springs for the hood look a little overkill.

Hey Freud -- hopefully one day you can get Jim's photo album or 35mm negatives and scan the first few years of the build sequence itself.  There is still a lot more of this great story to be hold showing Jim's craftsmanship and engineering from the beginning that hasn't been revealed!
