In the two pictures above ( not the group photo) I love that you can see the flush mount rivets filed smooth. Does anyone have a clue as to how many rivets there are in this car?

All we know is the worldwide Cleco shortage is finally over!  :-D

Maybe that's the real reason Boeing switched to carbon fiber?  :?

Wow... that NACA Duct is incredible ( As is the whole car.)! I'm tempted to try my hand with Aluminum, but can't really justify bunging up a perfectly good piece of metal just for practice. One of these days I'll transform all these empty "Steel Reserve" cans into something. That is as soon as the headach wears off.

Funny thing is, NACA ducts are not that hard to fabricate. The basic dimensions you can get off the internet. The side wall profile can be printed on paper and traced. Both the width profile and depth profile. Time consuming, sure. Difficult, not so much. If you don't "bung up a perfectly good piece of metal" how do you learn?

I Googled "NACA duct dimensions" and this was the second listing. "sports.racer.net/tech_info/aero/naca_profile_calculator.xls" http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=2&ved=0CC0QFjAB&url=http%3A%2F%2Fsports.racer.net%2Ftech_info%2Faero%2Fnaca_profile_calculator.xls&ei=7Ix5UOX0DoLo8gS64oDADQ&usg=AFQjCNFCGdHxIalWz9va7M0nPporr8Keng&sig2=qv2UM54njc2wra63c_JwxQ&cad=rjt

Dean the three ducts on the car were designed from info taken from a source on the Internet.

Thanks for your answers.

Dean, thats an awesome calculator! If you look in my build diary I made two of them...........w/o that cool spreadsheet :-( I simply took a scale drawing out of one of my books (Engineering to win and off the internet) and enlarged/reduced it on the copier!

I regret to inform all of you that we will not have a posting schedule that will be as frequent

as we have had for the past few years. Hume has some vacation time and Marlo has some

work that he will be doing on the car in Oregon. As things are now Ray and I intend to try to

have a post twice per month. The small things that must be done to have the car ready to test

in the Spring of 2013 are being tackled.  The blowers will be replaced, the data pack must be wired

and a crew trained for that testing. All of the training will be directed to meeting the one hour

turn around time.  My next post will relate to the blowers. They have been disassembled, coated

and reassembled after a modification to be able to drain any pooled fuel in the case before starting.

So be patient. We will provide as much information as is sensibly possible considering that when the

car is in Oregon it is 5 times farther away that it was at Hume's.

Have a look at Ray Therat, Jason Hosking and Rex Schimmer.  Also Jason and Jim Hume.

I spent the weekend tuning a N/A gas engine on EFI with Gene Adams and Ron Pratt.  Told them about your comment.  They got a chuckle out of this.

Even the best get beat sometimes

Scott,

You must be talking about the engine masters motor. I had a talk since then with Gary Adams and he happened to agree with me that Les is one of the best tuners of supercharged Alcohol motors out there, and we both agreed that Gene is one of the best for injected nitro.

Did you watch the A/F final from the Hot Rod Reunion this evening? It was Les Davenport and Kin Bates in the final, great race and Les took the win light covering about 1350 feet of race track.

My point? These two great tuners show just how good they are with their respective fuels, running in the same class. Both are impressive IMO.

Well worth the wait. I hope to get to the level of sophistication that I too have a sheet of Mother or Pearl at my shop to make knob centers. For now, some Eastwood jewelers rouge and a buffing wheel is about as pretty as we get around my place.  :-D

Thanks for the post.

You're an honorable man, Glenn, and your documentation of this project is beyond reproach.

Take your time - it's always been worth the wait.
