mc1984ss, now that it's been outside it doesn't want to go back in. There will be many opportunities

to see it later. It is going to run, just not this time. There are testing plans underway and then it's

challenge to make the big number will be attempted. It may take several tries but this team is not

quitting. After waiting this long to get this far the approach to post a big number will be thorough

and relentless.

This goal will not come easy but there is no quit in the project.

In the near distance I hear the clack of the solenoid, the whine of the starter . . .

The first burble of an exhaust note, the smell of a new motor roaring to life . . .
Well, it used to be Los Angeles . . . 50 miles north of Fresno now.
Just remember . . . It isn't life or death.
It's bigger than life or death! It's RACING.

That's shortly after returning from the Salt.  The front engine has run on Davenport's dyno so it's felt the heat of a dyno pull.

The rear engine is ready and it won't have long to wait.

The plan now is to do the first tests at the Mojave Mile the last weekend in September. Marlo bought new 250 MPH tires,

had them mounted and shaved to use when they do the "destructive" type testing on that strip. Any problems will be

addressed over the winter.

The only thing missing from the testing sequence will be the smell of NITRO.

A simple explanation:  There had to be a cutoff date established for Marlo to pick up the car, drive to Portland

and get ready for the trip to Wendover.  When it was decided that there would be a display on the Salt it was

also decided that the car would leave Hume's place on that day.......whatever the state of finish.  There is still

work to be done on the very last section of the tail. Chute releases are one of the items. So when the hour was closing

in on them enough rivets were installed to make it suitable to transport. So with finishing still needed the last

section has not been surface finished.  After the return from Wendover it will have to go back to Hume's place

for the final touches. It is ready for fuel, water and oil. Dave Jeffers says mechanically it is ready to run. Then

back to Treit's shop in Oregon to get it ready for testing in September.

I know. We always want more but once again patience is required.

As soon as I know more I'll post it. My life will be altered from now on. Instead of the project being 55 miles from where I

live most of it will be done 230 miles away.  Even flying it will take 4 hours to get there. Bless todays security system. Oh Ya.

We'll see you at B'ville.

Freud's a little tied up at the moment and I just got the Target 550 post for this week up on the server.  Here's the link

http://www.target550.com/gallery/185_target550_liner_meets_Bonneville%27s_weather_new_shirts/index.html

The topic has a little to do with the weather we had over the past coupla days and getting the liner out of its shell for public ogling.  And ogling they are doing!  I gotta run down to the display area, so enjoy the post and I'll get some more SW photos as soon as I can...if the little Propster-like thing doesn't chop us all to ribbons first.  (If that doesn't make sense to ya, check out the "Official SW 2012" thread.  Ya can't miss it.

Here's one more photo that wasn't included in the post:

Enjoy,

Hi Ray

The liner is sure looking fine, are they going to set it on the ground so you can see it without the cradle blocking part of the view.

And why can't the salt cops put a stop that prop car or tricycle i guess you would call it, you could not pick a more safety wise bunch of guys than the whole group of LSR racers and this guy is in the middle of them on the terrible thing?

Marlo, Jim, Freud and the rest of the Target 550 Crew:

Thanks for going to all of the trouble to display the streamliner at SpeedWeek. It was a great experience to see it up close. All I can say it, 2D pictures do not do this car justice. You have to see the real thing.

Freud, Jim and Marlo it was great to finally meet you.

Dr. Freud, thanks for the tour of the Target 550.

I`ve been watching this build for the last several years, and think this entire project is the most well engineered and planned project I`ve ever  :-Dseen. It makes my car look like a soap box derby car built by a 10 year old, but I would like to see more details about the transporter trailer and cradle that`s used to move the liner around. That in itself looks like a major project that took a lot of thought and engineering. Congratulations on a job well done!

Here is the url for the post on the carrier.

http://www.target550.com/gallery/06_car%20carrier/index.html

It was probably done in 2007.
